what is error 102 for macbook pro

I've had the same problem but have figured out how to avoid it. If you go into the appstore and click on the "more" option describing the update, you can then see the four components of the update and download them seperately. You must download the itunes one last, because it only downloads after you update the computer software one first. It will restart the computer then you can go back and download the itunes update and a security one and after that, all is just dandy.

Well, the above error seems as though it's a bad download. You might try downloading again. If that doesn't work, you might try updating to 10.8.1 first: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1571

After that, see if you can update either by the download or via Software Update / App Store Updates

Could be a bad download. I just pulled from that link because I saw some posts of people having issues downloading, like you, and problems with that link. My copy seems ok..

Well, at the end of the day, it seems as though the DMG that is getting downloaded is corrupt for one reason or another. Perhaps a problem with your ISP and it's becoming corrupt during transit, or some other anomaly.

I suppose you could try allowing all install sources and see if it makes a difference, but it shouldn't, based on the message you're receiving. To do this open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. You'll probably have to unlock this pane with your admin password. Select 'Anywhere' under 'Allow applications downloaded from'. Try again.

Worst case scenario, do an OS reinstall from the recovery partition. This should only over-write the OS and leave your data and Applications in tact (unless you use Disk Utility and erase the OS partition manually before reinstalling). After this, try updating again.

Just some thoughts of things to try, short of taking it to an Apple store. Although, the latter might be a better thing to do if you don't want to spend too much more time on this.

here is the solution for error 102 .... those u have done a clean install of mountain lion and try updating in the app store the error shows ...those who have updated to mountain lion from lion wil dont get the error 102...!!

I had a similar problem on my MBP (late '08) running 10.8.2. When trying to run a SW-Update via the Mac App Store the loading process aborted shortly after starting, stating error 102.

However, i have avast installed which i couldn't update neither. Disabling avast enabled the MBP to update properly.

Does it download the update or fail before/during the download? Or does it fail before/during installing the update?

find it and download/install

Under the apple it will say "version" followed by what version your on what does it say?
