You NEVER buy the song. The artist/label ALWAYS owns the music.

No matter if you buy on CD, download, etc you ONLY have buy the rights to your own personal use of the song. This is nothing new. It has always been this way.

You can transfer DRM music to other computers. This has little do do with your issue.

What exactly do you want to accomplish? Not sure what you are after.

If I purchase a album or song, i want to own it. That way i can tranfserr it to my girls & thaty can have it. No sense in building a library if the music isn't mine. If my iTunes account goes away ... i still want my library for my family.

Again, you NEVER own the music.

You can transfer it to your girls. Why do you think that you cannot?

The music is NEVER yours. You ONLY buy the right to your own personal use. Your household can use your music as well.

Incorrect,

If i purchase the CD, I can give that to my girls to load on iTuns for their use in the future. If i purchase a download, the music is restricted to that itunes account & CAN NOT be moved. CD allows me to download to iTunes, Window media player, Or whatever. The CD format I own the SONG & can give it to my kids. I own all the "rights" to my music but You Are My Miracle" by Vittorio Grigolo wil NOT cpoy. It say this computer is not authorized to play that DRM!!! That wrong. Yes?

I am 100% correct.

"If i purchase the CD, I can give that to my girls to load on iTuns for their use in the future."

Just because you can do something does not make it legal. You can legally share music with your household. You cannot legally distribute it to others.

The CD format I own the SONG

You DO NOT own the song. The artist/label owns the song. This is the law. There is NO DOUBT at all about this. You own the EXACT same rights with a cd as you do with a download.

"It say this computer is not authorized to play that DRM!!! That wrong. Yes?"

Authorize the computer.

RIAA - The Law - October 21, 2012

"Copyright law protects the value of creative work. When you make unauthorized copies of someone’s creative work, you are taking something of value from the owner without his or her permission. Most likely, you’ve seen the FBI warning about unauthorized copying at the beginning of a movie DVD. Though you may not find these messages on all compact discs or music you’ve downloaded from the Internet, the same laws apply. Federal law provides severe civil and criminal penalties for the unauthorized reproduction, distribution, rental or digital transmission of copyrighted sound recordings. (Title 17, United States Code, Sections 501 and 506). "

"Making unauthorized copies of copyrighted music recordings is against the law and may subject you to civil and criminal liability."

I undeerstand I never own the music. This idea is .... in building a library i want that investment to go to my kids. There R issues with downloadable music. I can't transfeer some songs to their computers, so they can take it off to college. MayB i don't know how. I know if i download a CD it ALWAYS is playable on the other computer. My library is huge 67,978 songs. I want them to have that. How do i know if i purchase of ITunes a download it will be transferable for them? The Vittorio Grigolo song was purchased as a download.

" If i give my daughter the CD is that illegal?"

If she is in your household, then no.

If she is not, and you keep a copy of the songs, then yes.

"I purchase large CD collections on eBay & load them to my library? Is that illegal?"

If the seller keeps a copy, then it is illegal.

"If the CD is original & not a copy can i sell it?"

If you do not keep a copy.

"

Copying CDs

  • It’s okay to copy music onto an analog cassette, but not for commercial purposes.
  • It’s also okay to copy music onto special Audio CD-R’s, mini-discs, and digital tapes (because royalties have been paid on them) – but, again, not for commercial purposes.
  • Beyond that, there’s no legal "right" to copy the copyrighted music on a CD onto a CD-R. However, burning a copy of CD onto a CD-R, or transferring a copy onto your computer hard drive or your portable music player, won’t usually raise concerns so long as:
    • The copy is made from an authorized original CD that you legitimately own
    • The copy is just for your personal use. It’s not a personal use – in fact, it’s illegal – to give away the copy or lend it to others for copying.
  • The owners of copyrighted music have the right to use protection technology to allow or prevent copying.
  • Remember, it’s never okay to sell or make commercial use of a copy that you make."
