Power Mac G5 Blank screen and no chime on start up

I have a Power Mac G5 (June 2004). Recently when turning on the plug switch (at the wall) there was a power surge to the Mac which blew the internal power supply. I bought a reconditioned PSU and replaced the blown one (following online instructions). When I turned it on again, it booted up, but without the start up chime and a blank monitor screen. The monitor power light is on, but nothing appears on screen (black). Eventually the fans go crazy and only stop if I turn the Mac off. I can't boot up in safe mode as there is no chime and have tried command shift P R to no avail. After much searching I'm lost as to what to do next.

Anybody have any ideas?

I have looked endlessly for this button (PMU reset button)Here is what the inside of my unit looks like.. The unit chimes on, but shows nothing on an external display (I have tried 2 monitors that work with my other computers just fine)... However, I cannot locate this button. Most of the units I have seen people resetting their PMU/SMU buttons look nothing like the inside of my unit. My model is A1093/EMC2020User uploaded file

**UPDATE** Found a solution! I have read all the tricks about purchasing a new PRAM battery, and all the other tricks... The problem with the mac turning on but no display is a result of the graphics card. Following ifixits instructions: Re-seated the Graphics card and the unit came on (Showing full picture on the display)User uploaded file! If I couldnt get it to work, I planned on keeping the G5 and selling the Apple Display, BUT all problems have been resolved and the G5 is running like a champ!

Power Mac G5 (Late 2004)

To reset the SMU on a Power Mac G5 (Late 2004) computer, simply do the following:

  1. Turn off the computer by selecting Shut Down from the Apple menu or by holding the power button until the computer turns off.
  2. Remove the power cord from the computer.
  3. Wait two minutes.
  4. Plug in the power cord.
  5. Turn on the computer.

The post that you did does NOT WORK.... Read my previous post with photos as the SMU could not be located.... My problem has been solved... The shut down and remove power cord I did and that had "0" affect on fixing the problem of the display not coming on... Following Ifixits guide helped... Ive read where people have paid Apple up to $800.00 for the fix that could have been done themselves... It only took 2 minutes to fix the issue... At any rate thanks for the post
