Slow connection through Linksys router

I have an iMac G5 iSight and a G4 Mac Mini (both running 10.4.5) that share an internet connection via a cable modem and a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The iMac is connected by an ethernet cable to the router and the Mini connects to the router through Airport. Both computers can connect to the internet fine but the connection speed on both is only around 1Mbps. If I bypass the Linksys and connect the iMac directly to the cable modem, the connection speed is around 3Mbps.

I have tried resetting everything and checked the transmission rate and max transmission unit settings on the Linksys but cannot get a faster connection. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

HERE IS A SOLUTION for the OSX vs. Linksys WRT54G problem. On the Mac go to System Preferences.. ..Network.. ..TCP/IP window. Enter the following for DNS

4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2

Then click on Configure IPv6. Turn it OFF. Save your settings.

This restored my internet speec (Comcast cable internet connection).

Of course what I don't know is what functionality or security I just lost by turning off IPv6. Anyone who has an answer to this, let me know. Thank Michael Kellogg for his help, he's The Man.

"finally a solution... and of course not from Apple."

???

As a bare minimum list, Apple has provided the following avenues for help:

1. physical user's guide included in package, online copies of all user's guides
2. setup assistants
3. tutorials
4. Mac Help available in Finder menu bar; application Help available in menu bar
5. clickable question icons available on most System Preferences panels
6. Read Me's with software downloads
7. online chat with a support agent
8. 90 days AppleCare phone support included with products
9. www.apple.com/support/ - which includes individual product support pages, hundreds of thousands of articles in the Knowledge Base, these very Discussion Boards, as well as its very own help page: http://www.apple.com/support/help/site.html

Hello everyone,

I don't mean to be rude, but Apple was completely unable to help with this problem. They are friendly and have assisted in many of my questions as a newbie (which I am grateful) but this question was just beyond what they knew about the problem. I hope they put it in their database so they can help others.

Thanks!

Mike
