RIP, iPad 3

The difference between the A5 chip and the A6 chip is enormous.I bought the new iPad just 32 days ago for my wife, For those arguing that it is the same machine I happily bought awhile ago, the device user part of myself agrees. However, the deal hunter part of myself is crying out in anguish.

Let's put it this way. If you went to the pump today and filled up your tank at $4 a gallon, and then the next day you find out gas prices has dropped and it is now $4 for two gallons, how would you feel? Yes, I needed gas yesterday, and yes I used some of it, but yes, it still feels crappy.

It is disingenuous of apple to pretend like the 'new' ipad 3rd gen was state of the art at its inception. My product, which is still under warranty for a year and a half, is so obsolete that it is no longer offered. If apple is going to sell these dedicated hardware products and refresh them so quickly without subsidized upgrade promotions - like the iphone in the cell-phone industry - than there is no reason to continue supporting apple. The ipad was my first apple computer product (iphones and ipods are not PCs, and the ipad is my estimation) and as a consumer I am furious and disappointed.

The question that I have is why Apple decided to replace the 3rd Gen iPad after only 6 months? I'm on my second 3rd Gen iPad after the 1st one got replaced due to connectivity issues on 3G and WiFi. My second 3rd Gen iPad still does the same, even after the iOS6 upgrade. The only difference is that my apps including safari crashes. This did not happen on my 1st 3rd Gen iPad. Now with Apple launching a 4th Gen iPad after 6 months makes me feel Apple knew they had issues with the 3rd Gen iPad and realized that they had to do something. Also, in South Africa the iPad is really expensive and I had to really save allot to buy the 3rd Gen iPad and I would have hoped that I will have the latest iPad for at least 6 more months.

I feel your anguish. I finally decided to pull the trigger on my "New iPad" just over 3 weeks ago, only to find out that 23 days later it's half the speed of the really "New" iPad. 😟

Well i havehad mine for only 4 weeks. I hope Apple steps uptothe plateand offersa credit. They gotsued once before for this crap. I feel absolutely ripped off and am now holding back on an i5 purchase until i hear from them. If not, this will be my last purchase. What a rip.

Ya except yesterday you got regular and today you get premium. Why release in 6 months? Manufacturing problem?

I actually share your concern. I watched the press conference and kept thinking, "Wait a minute. What happened to the iPad 3? Why are they not even showing it or really taking about it?" I had never owned an iPad until the iPad 3 was announced. I purposely put off buying an iPad until it was announced and pre-ordered it the same day.....the 64gb WiFI + 3G version. I also bought one for my daughter-in-law in June for her birthday.

I understand technology and new products as well as anyone out there. However, to bring out a newer version 6-7 months later and stop selling the iPad 3 altogether is just wrong. I don't need to have the latest and greatest, trust me. I don't even consider this new one to be the "latest and greatest". I just feel that dumping a product that was, in their own words, so successful after just a few short months is just wrong. It's almost as if they're saying that the product isn't all that good and they're dumping it completely.

I have owned numerous iPods and when they came out with newer ones, it never bothered me. When I wanted to, I just bought a new one. But, we are not talking about a few hundred bucks here, either. I was sort of thinking of buying the new iPod Touch, but heck, they may dump that next week, so I guess I won't.

I love my iPad 3 but I am very disappointed in Apple. I hope my iPad 3 lasts a really long time, because I am not so sure I will ever replace it with another Apple device. I love gadgets. I have more than enough money to spend on gadgets.....or toys, as my husband refers to them..........but enough is enough! I just don't appreciate the path that Apple appears to be going down right now. I am seriously left with the feeling that Apple knows something about the iPad 3 that they are not telling anyone. Why else would they dump it so quickly?!?

I so agree with you. I feel burned. Every product is my house is Apple from the iMac to Apple Tvs (6 of them) and for the first time since Steve Jobs death, my love for Apple is showing signs of weakness.

Couldn't agree more.

Apple have always taken a year+ to field an update to the iPhone and iPad (and usually the iPod and laptops too), when you bought an Apple product you knew you had at least a year with the most current product.

I can't believe that they have done this and risked annoying all the early adopters.

I always bought the lastest version of the iPad and iMac but who knows what they'll do now.

Update every 6 months?

Move the iPad updates to October?

Update the iPad mini in March with a faster processor and retina display?

Personally I'm going to be a lot more cautious when buying Apple products now.

I'm concerned about updating my iMac to the new one incase they reveal a retina one early next year and same with the iPad incase they add more features in March.

I've never had this concern with Apple before and it will affect the resale prices of the previous model.

Apple really does need to consider a buy-back or swap scheme to save face with the devoted Apple fans.
