No DVD drive in new iMac ???

So I have just completely upgraded my 15 years of home movies on DVD over the last year.

I converted video, old DVDs and used imovie to make great copies for all the family.

I just learned that if I get a new imac from Dec 2012, they have no DVD drive ?

What ?

If its true, then I need to buy into some device that can play and burn them for the next years.

Yep, Apple have a vision, but I cannot see it and I am 50.

In 180 months , when I am 65, I wont care about the visons of Apple.

But i will care about the memories on the discs and as Apple dont let on why they restrict the continuation or stop the use or anyone else using aformat that quite honestly is massively serviceable today and will be for some years.

Glad I dint chucj out the old dell and also, I will going fire her up to play my movies and memories. Steve Jobs is pictured on some of those DVDs, guess the new guys wanted to move on pretty fast from that era too !

Hmmm, now where is the off button, I need to do some exercise and get real again !

see ya

Just do what I will be doing: don't buy a new iMac! 👿

With no Firewire you won't be able to connect your video camera either!

and it even has support for M-disk, though not tried same on it.

That's a nice one...and it doesn't require a second USB port for power like the Asus burner I mentioned. I think that the LG would be my pick now.

I'm glad to see more and more people voicing their annoyance and frustration with Apple. I shall also be refusing to buy anymore Apple products, especially after the diabolical problems with the iMac screens.

I'v already sourced my next new Windows P.C. which is half the price of a new iMac with twice the memory and hard drive space, and and even better monitor.
Good riddance Apple - it's not been a great experience.

You are right this is not a drama lesson. It is a lesson in good business. Buyer feedback is important and I trust Apple are taking note - as Steve Jobs would have done. There is no need to be defensive on Apple's behalf. They are big boys and they will pay attention or not. I have been an Apple user and supporter since the 70s. Probably before you were born. I have seen this disregard before - and also seen where it led. And it took a big man to make it right. Lets hope Apple can find such a man.

Refusing to support a company or buy it's products because it ignores customer complaints is not a drama production.
It's a fact of life that if a company refuses to acknowledge it's customer base on issues such as quality, or product line, then eventually that company will lose substantial sales.
The customer is king.
Don't you think I've already given Apple feedback on their website Csound1?
Well I have, and I've also been ignored once too often.
I must admit I find your comments rather rude and sychophantic, just the type of customer Apple relies on to survive.

There are no Superdrives in the new Imac for technical reasons #1, to keep it as thin as possible.

2. you can buy a superdrive external for $80

or a likewise one that works for $39

3. Theres little need for DVD players anymore for the same reason best buy and other retailers DVD section shrunk by 70%,.......its becoming Dinosaur technology

its all online and download more and more so.

Thank you Bernie. To be quite honest this will probably be my last post on this forum, I've found over the past two and a half years of looking for answers to several problems with my iMac that educated answers from knowledgeable people on here to be few and far between.
I've had so many comments deleted by the Apple moderators that I feel like I'm living in communist state where freedom of expression has been outlawed.
Apple use some very underhand tactics to divert attention away from known quality issues with their products.
On a recent trip to my local Apple store I was dismayed to find that access to this forum had been blocked on the in-store computers - This stopped me from drawing attention to the known quality issues of faulty DVD drives and staining on iMac monitors, and having an honest discussion with the store manager.
It was at this time I actually decided to no longer support Apple products.
I've spent a small fortune on an iMac, and I am one very dissatisfied customer.
Not just with the product but with the whole Apple experience.

I couldn't care less if Apple's new machines have DVD/CD drives fitted or not. It' irrelevent.
The fact that my machine was bought with one and has never worked properly is the point I'm making.

I actually still need and use a DVD's, and the fact that Apple has decided to not include a DVD drive because of design is a totally nonsensical idea.
Choosing design over functionality is never going to be a sound marketing stratagy.
