Apple screws Ipad 3 customers with iPad 4

I purchased iPad 3 two months ago. Now iPad 4 is out and twice as fast. I just wasted 729 dollars? IS nothing going to be done for the loyal apple customers who believed our expensive purchase wouldn't be obsolete in two months? THIS HAS NEVER been apples policy in past to upgrade before a year. Very disappointed

I do understand what your saying and agree to a certain extent, yes of corse we all want to see new tech coming to the market and Apple never done anything wrong by this, what i feel they have done wrong is not putting the price of the Ipad 3 down, other companys do on there old tech.

People were still paying the same price they brought the 4th gen out for, for the 3rd gen at the time it was released.

As ive said before im happy with the ipad 3 its a great pad, however had i known the 4th gen was just around the corner,i would of purchased that instead, makes sence really.

I really didnt think as there was no price drop on the 3rd gen that there would be any way of a 4th gen.

I dont think people are whining i think they (we) are just putting are valid point across, i would'nt of been un happy if apple had put its price down on 3rd gen ready for 4th gen.

The iPad4 availability was not simultaneous with the discontinuance of the iPad3. As with many other products, Apple introduced the new product at the same price point as the old product.

Several posters have pulled out calculators and calendars that indicated a historic product life cycle, and then complained about the inherent unfairness of not abiding to the historical reference. With the increased competition, and the technological advances that can be executed at a large-scale, I'd expect that future products will exhibit shorter life cycles.

Well it's a learning curve with me, but could you explain to me, how we find out when a new product is coming out way before the current product on the market is about to end.

Because I searched the web, I looked all over the Apple store, I had heard that a new Mac Mini and Mini Ipad was coming out but nothing was said about the Ipad 4th gen.

Apple are a fantastic company, I take back my first post saying I'd never buy apple product (who am I kidding) I know I will as there products just, work.

I'm just going to be a lot more careful before I buy... That's all any of us can do really..

You can't wizzy, that is how it's always been with Apple and now other companies are taking notice and following suit. All you can do is read the tech journals and look for clues in the supplier chain. Also Apple typically announces updates to whatever product is their current 'it' product JUST BEFORE the holiday season. That used to be the iPod. Now it's the iPhone and iPad. As Carl mentioned you can expect shorter product life spans with all the increased competition, especially with cell phones and tablets. I'd say if you get 6 months out of a product then everything else is gravy. It used to be around a year but those days are gone. I'd bet you'll see a new mini around late spring/early summer. Another thing I've noticed is that these product updates usually are announced just before a new fiscal season starts so they can keep their numbers up. That was one reason for the iPad 4 coming out when it did according to analyst. I understand it's frustrating, but that's the way it is and all you can do is make your best guess and take it from there with the information you've acquired from the sources above. Apple is after all a tech company. When other companies enter into the mix it puts pressure on Apple to stay on top. That's usually a good thing for consumers but now product life span is shortened. Rumors have always been a big part of Apples new products. Apple likes this because they naturally want consumers to anticipate their products, especially before the holidays, which is what happened with the iPad 4.

I'm also one of those that bought the iPad 3 as soon as it became available. Though I love it, I'm pretty ****** off that its been superseded to quickly. I expected I'd have at least year...but a couple of months is frankly taking the ****.

To do that, they must have had the plans for what's been upgraded in the 4 but maybe a technical issue. So they sold the3 to give themselves some space to fix it.

If they were honest, they'd upgrade for free. Me? Well they offered a 50% refund. What? Why should I lose so much because of their greed. I was and have been an Apple devotee for years. Doesn't seem they appreciate their fans.

I bought my iPad 3 in August when I thought I was buying the latest product from Apple. If I had known the would be a new model for November I would have waited. It's not even a small change they have made.

I am really hacked off and also think that Apple should swap out every New iPad with the Newer iPad.

Even stores knew nothing of the product.

If Apple want everyone to buy Samsung then they are doing a great job.

Apple listen to your customers.

All other manufactures in the cellphone and/or tablet market either already are, or will be updating their products like this. There is far too much competition for yearly updates to be feasible anymore. Rumors have already started swirling about the new iPad mini coming out this spring. These companies really don't have much of a choice, they either compete head on with their competitors, or they will lose market share and sink. Apple needs to do what's best for Apple, and if you can't handle refreshes like this then simply don't buy any cellphone or tablet. The new samslum gs4 is supposed to be announced in a few months, and they just released the GSIII a few months ago. This is the new normal 🙂

FYI the Ipad is not a Phone.

You will also find that the other brands at least provide some warning when new models come out. They have reviews etc many months before a launch, like the iPad Mini, which everyone knew about the product well in advance of the launch.

The fact that Apple decided to sneak the product on the market at same time without any PR or advertisement just shows how underhand they are. On top of which, the fact that they removed all remnants of the New iPad (3) just compounds the situation.

Major changes like doubling a processor should at least be informed.

Even the retailers didn't know until the stock arrived.

I won't be buying any other Apple products unless they resolve this issue!

I'm with you GAS5Y

I was accused of being greedy earlier, tho I wasn't asking for anything.

My view is that there were probably a couple of things to fix before release, so Apple released v3 without the updates, then a month later "quietly" released v4.

Yes, quick releases is now the new normal....but with loads of fanfare and media hype. The fact is Apple kept this very quiet, and I for one found out by accident. That's not right.
