"static.ak.facebook.com" cannot verify server error

Hi,

Tonight I started getting pop up errors saying "cannot verify server identity - static.ak.facebook.com" errors.

This is happening all of a sudden on my ipad, iphone 5 and my Mac Book Pro. All started tonight. Any ideas? I keep pressing cancel on the error.

Thanks everyone.

I'm still getting the popup. As I just mentioned in my thread on the Safari forum, it may just be a coincidence, but when I check my cookies, there are many more than I would think there should be. I did a Google search and visited Google news and went to two links only to discover that I had cookies from 54 sites. Some were the usual ones, others I'd never seen before. Here's the list, just in case it has something to do with this unpleasantness.

Add me to those who were suddenly bugged with the same message, no matter which site I visited. MacBook Pro (10.8.2), Safari 6.0.1 (8536.26.14).

Neither quitting, then re-opening Safari nor a normal restart eliminated the problem.

I decided to zap the PRAM (command-option-p-r held down while holding the power buttom for 3 restarts). Worked like a charm and all is back to normal.

Odd that all of us saw the same message this evening, October 23, after 10 pm. I watched today's Apple event in real time earlier today. Would be odder if all of us with this problem did the same. /e/

OK...somehow I got rid of it on my Macbook Pro....this is what I did...

1. Clear All Cookies

2. Reset Safari---i made sure everything was checked (especially password history)

3. Closed Safari and reopened it.

4. When message popped up again I pressed "Continue"...i didn't even let the next page load before closing it.

I quit and reopened Safari again...and this annoying message was gone. 🙂

Haven't seen again in the last 30 minutes...hope this helps???

GOOD LUCK 🙂

I just passed this by my white hatted, 'network security handy' friend. He dug into it and it seems that this is a simple issue of akamai.net (a well established content delivery company) using a certificate that has Facebook's name in it, instead of theirs. Nothing to worry about, as far as he can tell.

More specifically, he says "it is probably an akamai ad hoping you're an iPad user with Safari instead of the Facebook app.

It probably is an add for you to download the FaceBook app IF you are using Safari with an iPad....It's a setup error. It's a BAD setup error that makes Akamai look like dummies."

It looks like the issue may already have been resolved, server-side.
