cannot verify certificate "static.ak.facebook.com"

Hello Folks. Igo to a news site, then a drop down: cannot verify certificate "static.ak.facebook.com" could put information at risk; connect anyway? --But It happens at several sites. I do not do facebook.

Any thoughts or information from anyone, I hope?

hahaha I guess I sent the email to akamai three minutes too late! ahhahaha I checked three sites it had happened with,a nd it seems to be fixed.

Perhaps a typo in the entering of the certificate info caused it.

Nice meeting everyone! I have never had so many responses so INSTANTLY! hahaha Until next time, peace. C

There is an EASY FIX for this...

Go to:

/Applications/Utilities/KeyChain Access

Select "KeyChain First Aid" from "KeyChain Access" (menu choice)

Make sure the radio button for "Verify" is selected, and then click the "Start" button.

Once completed, it will tell you if any problems were found just above "Verification Completed".

(In my case "no problems found").

It is not necessary to perform a "repair" if no problems were found, BUT, by doing this, it will STOP the annoying drop down...

"Safari can't verify the identity of the website "static.ak.facebook.com"

a248.e.akamai.net ~ GTE CyberTrust Global Root

"This certificate is not valid (host name mismatch)"

FYI: "KeyChain Access" stores info for Certificates. If a "mismatch" occurs, you get a warning. Doing the above "KeyChain First Aid" will verify and correct the problem.

Hey dino_russ,

If you've never gone through the "keychain first aid", it can take a while. The fact that there were errors is likely due to the certificate updates that take place from time to time.

If it eases your mind somewhat, the fact that we all got hit with the same certificate message isn't due to anything malicious (its that a lot of us have the facebook certificate), and the new certificate conflicted with the old. By running the First Aid, it checked the identity and verified it (and all the others). Anything found to be problematic is then resolved with the "repair" function.
