How do I fix my issue with sticky keys on the keyboard?

I accidentally spilled some juice on my keyboard and now the keys in the top right corner are really starting to stick. I'm really scared because I don't want any of the components to get eroded by the sugar and water. How would I fix this myself because I'm abroad (and my Mac isn't under warranty anymore)? Help is greatly appreciated.

NOTE: keys effected are: 'i', '0', '9', 'u'.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

There's nothing you can really do yourself. Even abroad, can you find at least an Apple Authorized Service Provider near you? Spills aren't even covered under AppleCare so don't be worried about not having any warranty remaining. You're just going to have to pay to get your machine repaired - not what you wanted to hear, I know.

Good luck,

Having had an issue with the Caps Lock keycap suddenly popping off and being told by Apple that repair would entail replacing the entire case (to which the keyboard and trackpad are permanently bonded to) at my expense to the tune of ~$800, since that was a "cosmetic damage" not covered by warranty, I doubt you will get satisfaction from them.

I would suggest wrapping the screen up securely for protection, popping the corresponding keycaps off, then turning the Mac upside down and spraying the key mechanisms clean with high quality contacts cleaner. The idea is to flush the contaminant out without letting it and the spray solvent creep into the guts of the Mac. Have someone hold the Mac upside down while you spray upwards. Will probably also be a good idea to mask off all but the keyboard with good quality non-residue painters's masking tape. Since the scissors mechanisms under the keycaps may break when popping them off, you can get replacements at https://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/ where they also have how-to videos.

Lastly, this pic of my broken-off Caps Lock may give you an idea of how they're put together (click to zoom). The springback action is provided by the round silicone rubber "cup" enclosing the electrical contact in the center.

There are a number of videos on YouTube on how to pop off and on the keycaps on these Unibody Macs, but there is a risk of the tip of the scissor breaking off (like in my case, look at the top/right side of the mechanism). If you do have to end up buying spare keycaps from the link I provided, to the tune of $4.95 ea, buy 5 get one free, they come with all the trimmings: labeled keycap, translucent undersupport, scissors mechanism, stainless steel guide wire and rubber cup. If you're a girl, this is also a good option when you manage to rub the key label off with the designer fingernails... 😝

Good luck.
