GPS is very important function of device like iPad but it is not listed on tech-specs of iPad mini wifi version. Is it true that it does not come with GPS?

No WiFi-only iPad has ever included GPS. GPS is included in the cellular model only, just as it is with the larger iPad.

Regards.

Funny, my WiFi only iPad has no problem giving me directions based on my location, and has no problem locating itself on the find my iPhone when I look it up online. And it is always spot on. I know this isn't based on my WiFi either because I can use it on my hotspot on my phone, and always get the same location by as my phone within about 2'

So does my Mac, which also has no GPS.

You use it with the Hotspot on your phone which has GPS?

Well, I would have probably forgotten about it, but the funny part about that is, the WiFi doesn't push it's GPS location through, and just to test it, I just pulled up maps, had it pull the information where I was, turned off the WiFi, and it gave me turn by turn directions to where I was going, with no WiFi communication...So if there is no GPS in it, then there is some other way it is pulling that information...Not getting any information from the phone

The phone uses GPS to obtain the location and then the phone sends the location info to the iPad.

Maybe you have a wifi+cellular iPad and don't know it. The GPS signal comes from the GPS satellites and the wifi only iPad does not have a GPS receiver. GPS is a one way signal received from the GPS satellites by the iPad that has the GPS hardware. There is no transmission of GPS signal from your iPad to anything including your phone.

I understand how GPS works....However, I know for a fact that there is no cellular in this iPad mini...I have two of them, one that does and one that doesn't. This particular one doesn't, there is no SIM card slot, there is no options in the menu for any settings for the cellular, and the price that I paid for this one....I'm very sure that it doesn't.

Well location determination requires either GPS or WiFi crowdsourcing. You've ruled out both. The only conclusion is that you're imagining that the location is beging detected.

Why not have a GPS receiver in the wifi only iPad mini, when the wifi only nexus 7 and all wifi only Android tablet have? I use an iPad 2 wifi+3G, but I never understand that. I know, it's all about money 🙂

There are very severe space constraints in iPads. Apple has chosen to use a combined cellular/GPS chip. Therefore, it's impossible to get the GPS without the cellular.
