My iPhone 5 just stopped working now not visible with iTunes

Thank you JDM-NZ! I was ready make the trip to have the phone serviced when I decided to try google "iPhone 5 stopped working"! ..I am now backing up all data.

tonight this happened to me when i was out in the surf. i would do this trick but my lock button stopped working a while ago. should i just go ask for a new one from the nearest apple store or is there another way?

I just had same thing, with my brand new 5s. I woke up in the morning and the phone was unresponsive, blacked out, appeared switched off. I thought it was weird since yesterday i used it just fine before bed time. I tried your trick and its OK now. Battery wasnt dead, there was over 40%!

I have to say its worrying me a little...

Didn't work for my phone.

This happened to me with my iphone 5 after 7 weeks use so I googled iphone not working and it took me here. tried it and hey presto it worked so thank you JDM-NZ. It is a bit worrying though that this head-stagger happens. Would have expected better from Apple.

Thank you. It worked. Saved me a trip to the Apple store two days before Christmas. Didn't save me from being late for work. The phone is my alarm.

And why is it at 22% when it was plugged in all day yesterday?

This just happened to my husbands 5s. He plugged it in, last night to charge, and woke up to a dead phone. Nothing will turn it on. He's been doing the home key and lock button combo and it will not respond. Is there anything else to try? This is extremely frustrating since he depends on his phone b/c of being in the military!

LLove these posts they rescue me everytime- rather than call apple who wants money everytime to ask a question then if they can't answer it they sent me to hp printer who charged me another fee to help me only to discover it was because the update caused the problem uuggh .. But. I must say my husband came downstairs to my office and said his phone wS dead .. So I looked at it plugged it in And then googled apple support and presto there were my tech angels there costing me nothing and saving the day! My husband was thrilled and wanted to know how I did it . I said if I tell u you won't need me another and lAughed . He thinks I a amazing with this stuff .. He doesn't know my cyber buddies save me .. So thanks for helping and caring ! I am so grateful !

I just had the same problem with my Iphone 5c. Pressed the home and lock buttons and held them for about 3 seconds and the phone turned on again - all fine.......thanks all.

Same deal, was working fine a few hours ago - came out of an event and it was dead - DEAD. I was a bit panicked because my mom just went into hospice and I'm a coast away trying to keep up with new.

Phew!!! I was upset on my drive coming in to work thinking about what must have happened to my iphone 5. Luckily the home+lock combo buttons brought it back to life. Thank God (& Apple Community) for forums like these. Helped relieve my heartache.

thanks so much! you saved my life...am traveling in Europe and it was extremely upsetting, not to mention putting quite a damper on my ability to get around, when I couldn't turn on my phone this morning. Found this forum and bingo, your solution worked!
