Will they make a new smart cover for the iPad 4? or do we have to stick with the old smart cover with the 30pin shape around the 9pin.

At this time Apple shows the existing Smart Case as compatible with the new iPad as well as previous models, so for now its the same case and the port opening will just be larger that the port. Whether in the future they'll release a case specifically tailored to the 4th-gen iPad is unknown.
