Short interference (snow like) Mac Mini i7 (Late 2012)

My brand new Mac Mini has a strange error which i have never seen on any computer. At rare intervals my monitor shows a short (1 sec) interference. During this brief moment my apple cinema display shows 'multi colored snow'. It looks like the 'snow-interference' on old school tv's, but these speckles are in black, white AND red, green & blue.

I've got a cinema display connected through the provided Apple HDMI-DVI converter. The display itself never showed any interference on my old mac mini.

Does anyone experiences the same problem?

or.. does anyone has a clue what's happening here?

Cheers,

Bruno

hang in there guys. apple engineering is on the case on this one.

apple had me go to the apple store so they could capture my mini. im on a new mini now, this one has the same issue. but at least we know at this point that apple engineers now have one of our systems that are exhibiting the issue and are working on this to get us some kind of resolution.

hang in there, its the weekend, im sure those engineers have weekends off =p

Same problem here - brand new mid-tier Mini. Random and intermittent glitching and the screen has blacked-out a couple times for a split-second. Using the HDMI --> DVI adapater into a 21" Apple Cinema Display.

Have spent the past couple days setting up Logic, and moving plug-ins over from my old system and would be a real headache to have go through that again. Hopefully this is a quick and easy software fix - I'd hate to have to return the Mini at this point.

returning your mini wont solve the problem as the new one apple gave me also exhibits the problem.

again, they have taken possession of my original system and sent it to cupertino where one of the engineers is going to be investigating the issue.

The apple store took possession of my system on friday. I'm sure you know, hardware engineers likely dont work weekends, so we might see some kind of resolution within a few weeks I imagine as they have to...

a) find the problem

b) reproduce the problem

c) diagnose the problem

d) find a resolution to the problem

e) code or implement a resolution to the problem

f) test the resolution to make sure the problem is fixed

g) test to make sure no new issues arose in other areas of the operating system

h) test everything again, just to be sure

i) push out a patch to the operating system

or...

have them find out the issue is something completely unrelated, like the cables we are using or something similar.

regardless, I imagine this is going to take at least a few weeks.

But we know one thing for sure. Apple is on top of the issue, they have allocated engineering resources to the issue, and are working to resolve the problem for us.

tldr

Apple cares, and yeah, theyre workin on it =p

Dear all

have the same issue, discussing it in another thread.

VM1 has currently the third MacMini testing...

Myself, I have tried all possible cables, HDMI-DVI, HDMI-HDMI, Thunderbolt-HDMI, several monitors, several programs, so far either a blink-out (black screen) which comes on again after 2 sec., or the color-snow, or a black-screen (staying black).

Only solution so far is to unplug-replug the HDMI-Adapter, then it's right back...weird... 😉

cheers

Just had another problem as well. Computer was idle and went through screenasver and then montior sleep and when I went back to it, the screen was completely gray. Whereever I moved the mouse, the screen // desktop would draw in. If I held the mouse key down, I could "draw" in the rest of the screen. Whereever I didn't move the mouse, the display remained gray.

Definitely something wrong. Managed to take a screenshot.

Hello,

Yours sounds like a different problem...

Resolution

Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.

If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).

Additional Information

This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:

1. Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.

2. Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.

Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.
