Mac Mini 2012 video blinking out

Davehz, thank you for the update and effort ... it's appreciated! Good to know that AppleCare Netherlands are aware of the problem now! (I also tried to make them aware of this on monday but could not get a case number...)

Once a fix has been released they should issue an apology like the one given over the maps issue. This is a much bigger mistake IMHO.

The snark in me says . . . they should be using iCloud, which will automatically sync between all your systems!

Looks like I will be returning my replacement for good. Apple is aware of the issue, or at least they're saying so, and are looking toward a firmware update in the future. No timeframe. Could be days, weeks, months.

I use my macs in a production environment and this is no good, so back it goes for good, and I'm done with this mess. While I did finally find an Apple support rep who was helpful (1 out of 3) overall, customer support and service has been way below anything I've come to expect from a reputable company, let alone Apple. Really let down overall.

So why is the 2012 Mini still being sold with a known issue and no timeframe to be resolved?

so what the f*** is apple doing at the moment??? a few days ago i recieved a faulty mac mini, today i recieved my new iphone 5 with big scratches out of the box!

I completely agree on the Flicker issue, they should provide a solution soon or give me my money back. But the washed out colors via HDMI is a simple matter that you can easily remedy yourself. I did, just use the Calibrate function under Displays->Color.

I downgraded to a 2.5GHz mid-2011 i5 dual core, 16GB RAM, and will be putting an SSD in.

No problems and screen looks great! Once the SSD is in there, I will regain a bit of speed, not power though! I'm very disappointed by the whole thing as I was pretty excited about the quad core mini but I reported it and I'm getting my money back so done my bit to help the cause.

I would seriously suggest that people get a refund if possible to show apple that this is not good enough.

On a plus note, this one cost me £450 as oppose to £682 (with problems) so still sticking with mac osx despite this balls up as it's a superb OS and I'm sure the 2013 mini will be a vast improvement should they release one.

Just thinking about how good the 2012 mini would have been with discrete graphics makes this whole shambles even worse IMHO.

Good luck to everyone whichever path you choose, I hope things work out for the best. In the meantime, I will be keeping a keen eye on developments.

I couldn't agree more! I have never understood why Apple doesn't allow for this. Integrated graphics aside, the mini is probably the best computer value out these days. Shame Apple doesn't understand this.

Well said Sam, I did precisely the same, bought a refurb 2011 2.5 Mini with Radeon GPU and going about the same upgrade path. Works well so far with no black/snow screens as before. It was about half the price as the BTO 2012 2.6 ($500 vs $950), and while I would love a quad-core, it's not worth an extra $225 per core with a flawed HDMI port. Oh my, what could have been if the 2012 had the same option for a RadeonGPU? Maybe Apple will announce a "Mini-Pro" in early 2013 with a discrete GPU to correct this strategic error in product strategy. It should be easy enough since they could use the same board layout in the 2011. Good luck to all.

Hi all I just bought the mini display port adapter to dvi connector and it seems to be working great. Keep in mind I just got this and have not tested it for long but the images for text and speed of the output are much better. The drops were every 15 minutes to an hour on the hdmi connector. I will let you know if I see the specific blink to snow screen with this new adapter. I know it doesn't help those with the hdmi and hdmi dongle issue, but so far so good.

If you can get apple to give you one until this is fixed I recommend that. Seems to be a good work around until their firmware is addressed.

Here is the dongle that I bought from Amazon. You will need the dvi cable to go from the dongle to the monitor.

It's NOT just the HDMI port! These exact problems occurred to me while the monitor was connected through mini display port (-adapter to DVI). It's the video card. I started out with the mini display adapter to DVI, because i own an MacBook unibody which i use with a monitor aside.

That's very interesting, there's hardly anyone reporting the issue with MDP>DVI-D. I would like to see if more people are having the problems whilst connected in this way.
