Mac Mini 2012 video blinking out

I just got my 2012 Mac Mini yesterday (mid range model) and have already noticed three instances where the video would blink out for about a half second, and then come right back. This happend twice already when I'm connected to a Apple 23 inch LCD monitor via the included HDMI-DVI adapter and once when I'm connected via HDMI to my Samsung LCD TV. Anyone else noticing this happening on their Mac Minis? Thanks.

I have two monitors connected to my late 2012 i7 Mini.

I do a lot of Photoshop work with huge files, so I have installed 16 GB of RAM.

I have Eizo CG243W connected with Thunderbolt/DP cable as my main monitor for critical color work

and Dell U2412M connected with HDMI/DVI cable for Photoshop tools and palettes.

I never had any color problems and no detail loss in whites.

At first I had some blinking and colored noise issues, but they all dissapeared after the first firmware update.

Now everything is rock solid,

I have Photoshop sessions as long as 12 hours without a single glitch.

I'm using high quality cables.

I'm using direct HDMI to DVI cable (no adapters) and it is a quality cable rated for full HD signal.

There are some cheaper cables out there rated as HD Ready (720p max)

and maybe they can be blamed for some issues?

Sorry if this pops anyone's bubble, just bought a second Mac Mini yesterday. My wife was wanting me to move the PC from upstairs where it is hooked to the TV (and slow and annoying) to the bedroom so she could have easier access to it without fighting the TV away from the kids.

WIth this issue seemlingly resolved, I was glad to buy another. Apple rocks. I'm never going back to PC.

I see some success stories, but for many, the quality of Apples' customer service on this matter was appalling. That's not to say their customer service is bad because it is generally very good, but in this situation, they dropped the ball big time.

Don't get me wrong, I am more than happy with my macbook pro which I just hook up to my 24" samsung syncmaster monitor when at my desk but I would never buy a 2012 mac mini again. The 2011 one with the Radeon graphics served me very well with no problems.

I look forward to see what comes out this year, but I certainly wouldn't buy one until I was sure none of this nonsense was going to happen again!

Since the display problem with the Mac Mini seems often tobe related to the cable &/or monitor attached to the unit, perhaps commenters on this forum would consider identifying the exact monitor and cable they are using with the 2012 Mini? Then, eventually, someone could construct a matrix of what works or doesn't (since Apple Support doesn't seem to be interested in doing this).

With my late 2012 Mac Mini (Fusion) I have as primary an Apple Cinema LED 24-inch display (mini plug) and as secondary an HP w2207 with a HDMI > DVI adapter. This now works OK with only occasional wake-up from sleep problems.

(I also have a HP w2207h which is the HDMI version of the same HP monitor. It does not work at all for me [just flashing].)

Overall the late 2012 Mac Mini is a great piece of equipment. Since you can return it if you don't like it, I would not discourage anyone from buying it.

My Mac Mini 2012 has been repaired. It won't show black screen anymore.

OS X update is useless, you should pick up your mac mini to authorized distribuitors by Apple, they offer you repair for free with conditions:

1- When this is purchased.

2- It must be undamaged.

It proves the warranty, now you should make a note how to reproduce the problem give to the staffs. It doesn't cost us.

It took 3 weeks to be repaired. It worked very well.

I am looking at getting one of these monitors.

Are we any nearer an understanding of what display/cable/interface conbinations are still suffering from the blinking and washed-out problems?

I would like to buy a Mac mini with a Dell U2312HM or U2412M display, initially using the HDMI-to-DVI adapter supplied with the Mac, but later moving to a miniDP-to-DP cable via the Mac's Thunderbolt port.

At this point I have no idea if I would have problems or not.

I need to do photo editing with Adobe Lightroom, and have found that I cannot stand Windows 8.

I'm using a Dell U22XX (don't recall the full model). It's 3 years old but it works fine with both my 2011 & 2012 mini's using HDMI to DVI adaptor. I'm using the standard DVI cable that came with the monitor.

I use it for video editing, photo editing, layout, movies & games. After calibration, it's color accuracy is still marginal but adequate for general usage (if color correcting, I make final adjustments at work on better monitor).

I suspect that quite a few monitors do NOT claim Mac compatibilty even if they might be induced to work.

I'm using an HP w2207 w/ a Mac Mini as a 2nd monitor fairly successfully but recently noticed that the company (HP) doesn't claim compatibility between this monitor and Macintosh products/operating systems -- only Windows products (& presumably Linux).
