Probably he wasn't informed about it. Apple always releases special updates for new Macs to bring them the new features like Fusion Drive for the Late 2012 iMac. App Store should have advised you about this Mountain Lion update

It's because 10.8.2 for Late 2012 iMac, Mac mini and 13" MacBook Pro with Retina display, and 10.8.2 Supplemental Update are different versions. Both are 10.8.2, but different Mountain Lion builds

Did this get pulled? The download radio button no longer works. I need to get to 10.8.2 to get Aperture working again on this new mini. 2 days of frustration on getting migrated!

Download link no longer valid. Good god does everything Lion-related appear to be [expletive removed]. I refused to upgrade my MBP from Snow Leopard; I'm attempting to set up a new MacMini and this is infuriating! As I'm typing this, Safari crashes. No joke.

I have the same problem. Just bought a Mac Mini, trying to update to 10.8.2 and getting the same error. Tried the 'recovery' method mentioned in other posts, which, as you may have guessed...didn't work. I found several references to the link above, but it doesn't work. *** Apple? What gives? Instead of setting up and using my new Mac Mini tonight, I have an $800 paper weight. Very, Very disappointing first purchase of a new Apple computer product. Glad I didn't decide to buy a new MBP. At least the one I have works. 😠

Same problem for me. Been on the phone to Apple support, and tried wiping the drive, then reinstalling the OS. But no different. Still stuck on build 12B2080.

My case has been raised to engineering. I will let you know the outcome. Hope to hear from them VERY soon. But the weekend is here, so who knows. Until then, Aperture which requires 10.8.2 is a no go. UGH!

Have you asked them about the link that appears to have fixed the problem for some that were able to get to it? This one: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1603 that seems to be missing now...

This is what I've been instructed to do now (all with no success):

1. Restart the computer, holding down the option key and then do a restore.
2. Download the 10.8.2 Combo update and try and install.
3. Restart the computer, holding down the option key and then do an erase & then restore.
4. Download the 10.8.2 Combo update and try and install again!
5. Restart the computer, holding down the option key and then do an erase with zeroes & then restore.
6. Try and buy Mountain Lion from the App Store. (Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer)

My case has also been escalated. I asked about the DL1603 but they knew no more (or even less) than I did.

My case has now been escalated to Engineering too. Unfortunately they don't work in the weekend...

The final option recommended by the Level 2 support was to restart the Mac holding down option-command-r which supposedly reloads the OS via the Apple website instead of from the recovery partition. Unfortunately this didn't work either...

... and the reload from Apple was supposed to load the latest version - 10.8.2. However upon restarting my PC - for the 4th time today! I still find myself staring at 10.8.1. Grrrr!
