iPad not available in iTunes over wifi

Since updating iTunes my iPad and iPhone are no longer appearing in the iTunes sidebar on my Macbook Pro. Is this a bug or is it intentional as part of the most recent iTunes update? If it's the latter then can someone please instruct me how to transfer and sync files wirelessly between my iPad and my MBP?

Sorry but I have to agree with Martin Bergstrom, I have the same issues with sync via WiFi.

I connect with USB and do all the setting up as suggested disconnect and it appears to be working over WiFi but the next time I turn on laptop and iPad it does not work.

Yes I can use the USB option but it is not convenient. Perhaps the ios7 will cure the problem.

O.K. Point taken.

I think there may be many with similar issues, a search with Google turns up plenty of questions and post offering solutions which would not be there if no problem existed.

Laptop running Windows 7 all up to date.

iTunes 11.0.5.5

Netgear Router DGND3700v2

No interference issues good stable WiFi signal and router does see the iPad in connected devices.

I also use air print with no problem (many people do have a problem with that) so the iPad does connect to the laptop O.K.

I find that sometimes if I power down the iPad and reboot it is found in iTunes on the laptop but not every time and this is a bit of a pain to do.

Any suggestions welcome!

So the millions of users that aren't experiencing this issue can be explained by......

You did not mention if you updated the firmware on your router. Look into that first.

Just because youre able to connect to the router for other services does not mean there is no interference with the connection for this particular issue. (phones, microwaves, radios, baby monitors etc.)

The issue could also be with the installation of itunes on your pc. Have you tried uninstalling it then reinstalling it? How about restoring the ios on the ipad?

Neither of us can know that, I accept that many other users may not have a problem but if they don't post on a forum like this or similar ones we wont know. They may have given up like some have said here or may use USB cable, this works for me without fail.

I have tried all that you have suggested ( the router is up to date) reinstall of iTunes on the laptop worked first time and found the iPad which was already running but the next time I tried it would not find the iPad.

Just like jonwiz says, sometimes it works sometimes not.

Thank You for your suggestions and taking the time to post them.

I have to stick my two cents in here. I also have the problem between my iPhone 4gs, my iPad 3 and my new Mac Mini Server (Mountain Lion 10.8.4). I can go through all the gyrations listed above and maybe the wifi connection will work, maybe not. Actually, mostly not. Actually, not.

The kicker here is that I'm on a University wide wireless system, maintained by our IT dept. And the wireless signals are strong and reliable all over campus. My phone and iPad and Mac work fine for every/anything else wireless that I want to use them for. But iTunes can't or won't make the wireless connection.

By the way, same phone and iPad connect flawlessly with my home Mac, a Mac Pro running Lion through an IP provider supplied router. I've never had to touch the router.

Any ideas? Sure, I can connect by USB, but it's inconvenient and I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO.

In iPhone Settings->General->iTunes WiFi Sync it says:

"Automatically sync with iTunes on your computer when your [iPhone|iPad] is plugged in to power and connected to Wi-Fi."

PLUGGED IN TO POWER.

The confusing thing about that, it that it often works when my iPhone or iPad is NOT plugged in to anything. I'm not complaining about that, but I don't see how people can complain when it doesn't work and their device isn't plugged in to power.
