Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
Petty obvious from that message that the files are damaged in some way and that Quicktiem based apps won't work with them.
But they open in chrom or adobe .. they also open in iphoto '08
just not in iphoto '11
Then I suspect an issue with your QuickTime installation, as I said above.
Can you move these images to another mac, see if they will open? If hey do then reinstall the OS.
They do not .. have tried on several macs and the images do not open on any - once the library was upgraded by iphoto '11 the files are altered and cannot open
but i just tried the following and it worked but it's way too much effort for 10,000+ pics ..
i went into the iphoto '08 original folder, copied one event onto an external drive.
then copied those into photoshop, used " process multiple images " and set the convert function to jpeg maximum, setting the source and destination folders as the same so the pictures are overwritten
all the previews then appear and i can import them into aperature and they open up with no problem ..
any other work arounds ?
Do the open in Preview on your Mac or any of the other Macs you had access to?
Try the following on a copy of one of the problem files:
1 - download the Automator workflow app, Convert to JPG and Embed sRG Profile, from Toad's Cellar.
2 - uncompress it and drop one of the files on it.
3 - see if the converted file will import into your library
If the above works you can convert all the problem files for import into iPhoto.
how do i reinstall quicktime V10.2 for snow leopard ?
sorry, i meant, mountain lion ...
Did you delete it from your hard drive?
Quicktime Player 10.2 is part of the OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.2 (Combo) updater. Download and run it and it should reinstall QT Player 10.2.
