Importing Canon MXF files to FCP X

Canon XF300.

Mountain Lion 10.8.2.

Final Cut Pro X

Many threads seem to point to needing a converter for these files before FCP X will read them.

I've seen a thread or two more recently where someone suggests FCP X will import MXF files directly with no conversion needed. I would like that, but can't seem to verify it works with my scenario. It sure doesn't seem to for me.

Canon has drivers and sofware on their site for the Lion OS, but nothing listed for Mountain Lion, leaving me to believe the drivers are not yet available or not necessary.

When I try importing my footage directly from the camera in the File/Import/Media... screen, FCP X tells me:

"No Importable Files"

"None of the selected files or folders can be imported."

So, can MXF files be imported directly into FCP X or not? If so, what am I missing?

hey guys. I also have the same problem. What I would like to know is why is that some people this seems to work for and others no? This makes no sense to me.

I have the plugin installed and everything is in the same folder as the one mentioned in this thread, but I still can't select my .MXF files from within FCPX. Is that Canon plugin the only thing we need or do we also need the backup utility?

I would love to see screenshots of people who can actually select the .MXF files in FCPX.

btw - I'm on Mavericks. Are any of you folks that have it working on Mavericks? The latest version of the plugin (2.2) claims is for Mavericks. Oh and I'm importing from an external drive. Not the camera directly. I just saw a video on youtube that shows it working when importing from the camera. But he doesn't show it showing up on his timeline. I assume that means that FCP converts the files at that point?

Could you please confirm that you can now use MXF files with Final Cut Pro X 10.2.2 without converting them??

Last week Tom Wolsky and Russ H very kindly tried to help me but the problem remains. They can open my file with their iMac but I cannot.

I have updated everything. Also according to this link FCPX should work but it doesn´t with me.

I have bought a converter but it seems crazy to buy a 4k camera and not be able to edit the films directly.

Canon claims that their clients utilize Adobe Premier and have no problem. I do not want to invest any more money in software.

Could anyone help me to find out what is missing in my computer to open MXF files?

Many thanks,
