Apps Ignoring Silent Mode

Hi,

When my iphone is on silent, the sound from apps and games are muted, which is how it is supposed to be. I've noticed that there are a few apps that actually take the phone out of silent mode (defeating the purpose of silent mode) and play audio anyway. I am not talking about music or radio apps...an example would be "pocketwhip" if anyone wants to look into it. It makes the whip sound even when the phone is on silent. I also have one or two more examples of apps that do this. How is this possible and how can I prevent this?

Thanks,

Jeremy

The Mute switch is a software one, not a hardware one that disables the speaker. Apple's own apps will ignore it too.

Apple's argument...sound that you didn't tell the phone to make, such as a game's sound effects, will be disabled. Sounds that you did tell the phone to make, such as an alarm, will not be disabled.

Surely everyone remembers the hooraw earlier this year from the idiot who set his phone's alarm clock off during a symphony performance?
