Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
My JVC just went south and I had to pick up a loaner for a shoot tomorrow. I have no idea how to begin the transfer process. The loaner camera is a Sony PMW-350 XDCAM EX. I connected a firewire cable (400 to 800) and have no idea what to do next. Any help will be greatly apprciated. The Sony manual is very vague.

I am having no luck at all. I installed all the Sony XDCAM transfer plugins and still no luck. The files are there but no video or audio. If you have any additional ideas I sure could us them.

The files are where? What exactly are you doing? MPEG-4 should not be coming into FCP. The files need to be in QuickTime.
The files are on SxS cards from a Sony XDCAM EX 350 camera. My JVC is broken so I have a loaner. Big shoot this weekend. Panic has set in. I have the camera mounted on my desk top but cannot get them into FCP. I have been told to install some EXCAM plug ins for transfer, not working.

What are you doing in FCP exactly? When you launch the application and go to the import window, do you see the card?

Yes, 10.0.6. Yes, I do see the card in the import section. But when I do import, the file seems to be there but no audio or video. I have tried to import the BPAN folder and the CLPR folder, and then the actual .mp4 files. Nothing works. I thought the XDCAM transfer plugin would convert but I can't even find the Sony XDCAM Log and transfer app after I installed it. Someone said I must use that even though it is for FCP 7. I deleted FCP studio long ago. All I want to do is get files from this camera into FCP.
I am at a loss.

According to an Apple doc, I have to download Sony's PDZK-LT2 1.0 camera import plugin to make this work. I have done this but still not able to get the files in. Here is the link to the plugin.

This is not working the way it's supposed to. If you can select the camera you should not need to select any other folder. Can you please post some screen shots of what you're seeing and what happens when you make selections in the import window?

After much research, I found the method. The Sony XDCAM "Browser" software has to be installed. That does the transcoding. Thanks to all for your time and expertise. You're invaluable here in Mayberry.

This doesn't seem right. Every Sony XDCAM camera I've used in FCPX simply imports using the camera import function. I don't need access to any separate software.

Well, that is not FCPX but the Sony XDCAM Browser... and you should be able to transfer directly from FCPX.
The XDCAM EX I have here, connects via USB, btw..
I'll try to see what is needed, as the camera does Not show up as a Camera, but as a Device.. and you can't see the video in the browser..:
Well, after a (re)install of the Sony FCPX plugin, I can still only see the camera as a USB volume, and the video is still black.
I'm on 10.8.2, and the Readme does not mention 10.8+, only 10.7.3+.. wonder if there is something with 10.8 and the Sony software?
