iOS 6.0.1 WiFi Still Greyed Out

My iPhone's WiFi was working great on iOS 6 when it first came out, no problems whatsoever, until last week it failed over night without me knowing. The WiFi option was still available but unable to connect to my home network and when I rebooted the phone, the WiFI was greyed out. It has not been working since.

I waited for iOS 6.0.1 to come out as I understood that this was supposed to fix the problem many users with iOS 6 have been facing with WiFi connections, but this has not worked. I do not understand why it has failed. I bought this 4S in February and have never dropped it and it has always been in a case. The WiFi was working great before I went to bed and the next morning it was no longer working.

I have reseted the network settings, restored the phone and even tried using the phone as new and this has still not fixed the problem.

Well guess what, you're right, disppointingly the new phone doesn't work either - but neither does it connect before a restore nor after, and equally poor luck after updating to iOS 6.0.1 (it came with 6.0). This one at least finds networks (an improvement over a greyed out Wi-Fi control) but can't connect. The tech guy says bring this one in too, he doesn't know what's wrong and I guess they'll simply give me yet another replacement, cross their fingers and say a prayer. 🙂

As I said in a previous post, I have an iPod, an iPad, a Wii and several computers on my Wi-Fi network, and if it matters for my credibility I'm an IT consultant and programmer by trade so please don't think "user error". I know what I'm doing and have never had a problem before iOS 6. I've also tried various encryption and channel settings on the router and it's always the same result - all my other devices connect just fine but the iPhone doesn't.

There's a real problem with the iPhone 4s / iOS 6 combination and it's for sure not user error.

Update: I've seen some discussions lately about iOS 6 and Netgear routers and there is also a message about it on Netgear's web page. As I have a Netgear access point I thought it would make sense if it also has problems. So, I went out and bought a Belkin router/access point and lo and behold my new iPhone can connect with it even though it still refuses to connect to the Netgear AP. So, my guess is Apple made itself incompatible with (some) Netgear routers and access points with iOS 6, and why it doesn't apply to my iPod and iPad is anyone's guess.

The first phone was broken according to the service guy, no Wi-Fi whatsoever, permanently greyed out, but this second phone can at least now access the net through the Belkin router.

What bliss.

Having the same problem with wifi. Can't connect at all after updating to iOS 6.0.1 on my iphone 4S. Even rebooting is not possible for this. =(

Previously there was no problem with wifi connection on iOS6.0 but was experiencing problem connecting to 3G after disconnecting from wifi. Had to restart the phone just to get back the 3G connection previously.

By the way, a Malaysian user here. 🙂

Just wanted to add myself to the growing list of others having this problem. Wifi on iPhone 4S is greyed out and bluetooth does not work as well. Like others in this thread, everything worked fine until the IOS6 update and 6.0.1 did nothing to reslove the issue. Followed all of the procedures recommended concerning restoring through iTunes, as well as everything suggested here and still nothing. I guess it's a trip to the Genius Bar since it doesn't appear as anyone has discovered a trick that resloves the issue. My condolences to those who live nowhere near an Apple Store. 😟

I've been having the same problem since my iPhone 4s updated to iOS6. Wifi completely greyed out, so i have been searching all around the internet trying to find a solution. Tried many different methods, until i came across the most ridiculous one. I know how it sounds but its the only one thats worked so far. So what i did was this... I turned off my device and sticked it in my freezer for 10minutes.... turned it back on and finally i was able to see my wifi connections. It seems this is only a very temporary and short solution because once the device was back to room temperature, it went back to doing the same thing. Hope this is of some help to you. Apple really needs to get their act together.
