iPad 4 Wi-Fi speed is much slower than on my iPad 2!

I just traded in my Ipad 3rd gen at Best Buy for $250 credit for the new 4th gen Ipad. When i got home I immediately had problems. I couldn't back any data up from the icloud. It went into error twice. Then I checked the speed of the Wi Fi and it was downloading at around 3mb uploading at 1mb. The problem is I have a 40mb/5mb fiber VDSL connection. I get 35 or more on my iMac.

The new iO6.1 update yesterday slowed down the iPad, my iPod Touch 5th gen and also my iPhone 5. I kept checking for problems, rebooting everything. Then i came across a notice from Netgear that there have been "known issues" with the 6 updates and they haven't solved it yet. So i dug out the Wi Fi VDSL modem that Centurylink sent me - Actiontec C1000A and set it all back up. My Wi-Fi speeds are now back to normal on all devices. It appears that Netgear wireless routers have issues with Apple devices.

I figured if anyone else had a Netgear Router, this information might help. The iPad 4 is amazing!

irishjeff... you went from an iPad3 to iPad4 and call it "amazing". Really?! In what way? I've just gone from an iPad2 to iPad4 (still have both) and am not experiencing anything close to "amazing". The iPad4 is a bit sharper/clearer with small text, a slight bit more detail in shadow areas of images, and the speed is only marginally snappier. Nothing "amazing". Can you tell me what you're doing that has given you the impression the ipad4 amazes you more than the iPad3?

I've done several tests with an iPad 2 and an iPad 4. (both wifi only versions). When I initially was testing with Speed Test my results showed the iPad 2 to be faster - about 8MBs down and 8MBs up on average compared to 4MBs down 4MBs up on the iPad 4. Then I notice the two devices were testing through different ISP's. When I switched them to the same ISP the iPad 4 was getting about 7MBs down and 10MBs up.

I figured there are a lot of variables going over the internet like that so I set up both devices to sync to my iTunes by WiFI, then added a movie to the iPad being tested and compared how long the actual copying of that movie took during the sync process. I did four different movies to each device. The iPad 2 values are listed first (min:sec). 2:12/1:44, 6:20/5:49, 1:40/1:33, and 3:59/3:53.

My router is a linksys E4200 that is supposed to support channel bonding and supports 2.4 and 5GHz bands. When I forced either iPad to use the 5GHz band they were much slower and the signal was considerably weaker.

It looks to me like there is not much difference overall between the two so far. It may take some work by Apple on the firmware to realize any significant increase in throughput.
