Does the iPad mini have the same slow charging issues as my "New IPad"?

I'm considering returning my New IPad and purchasing the iPad mini due to the slow charging issues with my New IPad. Does anyone know if the mini has the same issue? Does anyone know if Apple is planning on offering a different charger for the New IPad? I love everything about the New IPad except the charging system. I can't use it as much as I would like to. It's so disappointing!!!!

Yes I do use the same adapter that came with it, and for real I have no idea how long it takes but all I know it does take ages 🙂.

I do have 3 iPhone's and MacBook Pro and they do charge so fast, and I was not expectin iPad Mini or all iPad's as I know now they have problems to charge quick enough, it is sad 😟. And I nearly went to Apple Store to return and make my self ful lol, thanks to you guys.

Ive purchased the 12 watt charger and it charges the mini comparable to what the 5 watt does for the iphone. No issues since. Also with charging, ive had really bad luck with lightning connectors sold at verizon. They look the same as the apple lightning connector cables with the exception of the housing around the connector is more square shaped and the one directly from apple is a rounded housing. The square connectors have trouble plugging into everything after a few days and you would have to wiggle or force the connector in the ipad at an angle and hope charging starts. I trashed the cable and use only the one from apple, no further issues.

You have to wonder, if it makes good business sense, why Apple wouldn't include a more time efficient charger. I mean afterall, wouldn't that enhance the product and make it even more desirable than it already is.

I think Florin101 said it best. . . and btw, my lightning connectores work flawlessly, but then again they are original equipment.

For what it is worth, I agree with William. I have a Mini and made it a point to let it discharge several times past 15% before recharging it. I was not specifically watching it, but it took a few hours- which seems fine to me. I also used it quite a bit during the day and was able to go several days before having to plug it in for a charge. So- I see no issue with the charge time for the Mini.

I do have a suggestion/question. I do not know the specs for the different chargers, but is it possible that some people may be getting a lower AC voltage at their home versus others? Voltages can vary over quite a range from location to location. Lower AC in could impact the charger's ability to deliver a charge. Just a thought.

I have read all the comments, and want to add my 2 cents, because I came here hoping for a solution, but the solution appears to be "that is just the way it is". And, if a slightly slower charge helps maintain the battery life, all the better.

1. As far as Verizon/Apple Lightning connectors, I purchased a mini and a New iPad from the Apple Store, and both came with the "squarer" lightning connector, so I don't think that the connector is the issue.

2. Charging time -- I noticed that the charge time is slower on the New iPad than it is on an original iPad, or any iPhone. If the battery is larger, than so be it. I get this.

3. The odd part, I suppose, is that if my New iPad is at a 75% (randomly chosen) charge level, and I have it plugged into my MacbookPro (with retina, so newer), and the MBP is also plugged into the wall...if the New iPad is On (screen is on, no apps running), it actually doesn't seem to ever get more charged -- I actually think it does, but at a *really* slow rate, like maybe 1 percent more charge every 30 minutes or so. But, if I just turn off the device, it charges at its "normal" charge rate.

And, yes, charging overnight is obviously a good idea, but I use this device all the time, and put it in my work bag, so at times I forget.

Does the iPad mini have the same slow charging issues as my "New IPad"?
