How do you know nothing's up, Phil? If there is a software fix coming I would like to know so that I don't need to go through the trouble of returning it. If you know that this is not a software issue, then please just state it that way.

I'm not new to returning Apple products for warranty issues (2 lc575s and an Indigo iMac). I am just hoping that there is another option for this battery drain issue that someone on this forum could inform me of.

I'm still having a bit of a problem, but through some trial and error, it's a bit better.

Turn off every auto-setting/notification. The only thing I have on is my wi-fi. It'll take a bit of time to go thru all the settings. Facebook will drain this puppy in a heartbeat, if it's set to auto notify.

Turn off auto brightness, and set it about 30 to 40 percent.

If it's a feature you can do manually, shut the preset auto off. Email, Facebook, twitter, blue tooth etc and Safari use can knock down battery life 8 to 10 percent in an hour.

There does seem to be some merit to letting the battery drain completely, and then recharge completely 3-4 times.

The thing I find most disappointing about this.. Is we're sort of consumer screwed. We buy a product for the features we use most, only to find, they're not as user friendly as we've been led to believe.

Getting better battery life with lots of tweaking. Would I buy another one when this one dies? Probably not. Saving grace, it was relatively inexpensive.

I used the iPad Mini to watch a little over an hour of a video (stored on the device) last Friday afternoon. I watched the video in Airplane Mode. The battery went down to 88 or 99% after watching the video, which seemed acceptable. I pressed the sleep button and closed the case. Imagine my shock when I picked it up again yesterday and saw battery life at 6%! Again, it's still in Airplane Mode and hadn't been touched.

I charged it overnight and unplugged it to see if the problem continued. Just to make sure there wasn't something weird running in the background, I power cycled it. I left it unplugged, in Airplane Mode, and where is it now? 87%! So it takes a heckuva lot of power to do absolutely nothing. I thought the iPhone was a challenge, but at least it's *doing* something. And yes, the iPad Mini is indoors in a climate-controlled environment. I don't ever remember my original iPad being at all like this.

I work in the field with 5 other survey people. They have 4 iPad 2’s and 1 new iPad Retina. I had an iPad 2 and changed to the mini. We all use the same software and do the same job.

To date the iPad 2’s and Retina get about 8 to 9 hours of battery life. The mini I have to carry a backup battery because it is dead in 4 hours. Even with that I have to run back to my car in the afternoon to plug it in to charge because both the internal and backup are used up. My collages continue working without a battery issue.

I am on my 3rd mini. The 1st one we reloaded the OS twice and it didn't help so they gave me a new one. The second one they did the same thing and and I walked out with a new mini. The 3rd one they just gave me another mini without reloading the OS. Apple replaces their equipment without question if it’s in the 1st 14 days of the purchase.

I travel a lot so I went to 2 different stores. One was in Salt Lake City 3 times and the other in Denver once. At both stores they told me they were unaware of the battery life issue. Although they have given me 3 new mini’s they still haven’t fixed the issue. I finally gave up and purchased a backup battery so I can do my job. It is really sad that Apple doesn’t acknowledge there is a battery life issue for the iPad mini.

If anyone is thinking of buying a mini they better think about battery life. Unless they are sitting next to a charger I wouldn’t buy one.

hello everyone! i am new here! i have to say i am enjoying my ipad mini to the max. i had the same problem. after i updated to 6.1.3 os. my battery life was phenomenal to almost crappy and only lasted 6 hours continuous usage. i made a mistake of letting it drain first (old habits from nokia phones) what i did was not to let the battery drain and charge it at 20%. the picture i posted is actual measurement time. i played a high def weather app with video and let my ipad drain. actually i may be wrong the 11 hours started at around 85% after 3 hours of game play in the first dayUser uploaded file
