iPad2 won't reboot after ios6.0.1 update

iPad is now going through automatic reboot on its own continuously. The apple logo appears, displays for about 60 seconds, then switches to a dark gray screen for 10 seconds, then goes completely black for 10 seconds, then repeats these same three steps.

What I have done:

1. Attached my iPad2 via USB connector to my MacBook Pro Retina;

2. Accepted install for ios 6.0.1 upgrade when the upgrade message appeared;

3. Waited while the upgrade ran, was verified, then the firmware was upgraded and verified;

4. The iPad2 began recycling thorough its reboot process;

5. Allowed this to continue through at least five iterations;

6. Disconnected iPad2 from Mac;

7. Performed a restart (held home and power buttons down for 10 seconds);

8. iPad cycled through the same restart process as above;

9. Allowed this to continue at least five iterations;

10. Performed a Recovery

a. Plugged USB connector to Mac but NOT iPad;

b. Pressed Home button, then attached connector to iPad;

c. Allowed restore to reinstall ios 6.0.1;

11. iPad once again cycled through the same restart process as above.

I suspected that I might hve gotten a corrupted version of the ios 6.0.1 upgrade, but it verified so I am now at my wit's end.

Hi, there - posting an update.

I took my iPad to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store yesterday, and they tried to restore the iPad in-store - got to about 60% and froze up on "updating firmware," just as it did for me at home.

So they're going to replace my iPad, no cost to me. They're not giving me a shiny new 3 - didn't expect them to - but they're giving me another 2. Hopefully I won't have the same issues with it.

The fact that they're quick to replace it suggests to me that a lot of people are having problems similar or identical to ours.

I hope you get your issues resolved, because I know how maddening it's been.

I'm having this issue as well. I've done all the suggestions from Apple and on here. Just went to the apple store today and was not given a replacement. I'm now home with a non-working ipad2. They claim the upgrade to iO6 corrupted my motherboard. Personally, if this was Apples corrupted install, I think they should be responsible irregardless of whether I have apple care or not. Did any of the posters on here get a replacement without apple care? Any other suggestions offering a reason for the damage? The apple associate that 'handled' my situation suggests that I should sell my ipad2 to a 3rd party..."it's not worthless." In the meantime, he offered to sell me one for $249. Gee, thanks!

Curious to know if you had an extended warranty (Apple Care?)? My iPad2 died a couple of weeks ago, within an hour of upgrading to 6.1.3. I can get it to reboot, but when it goes to sleep mode it dies, and the last time I had to continuously try to reboot for two days. I am making a long drive to an Apple store this weekend. My iPad is 7 months out of warranty, and I do not have an extended warranty. There is no doubt in my mind that the Apple software update corrupted my iPad. I am going to take a copy of this thread with me, in the event they don't offer up a replacement unit, I will let them know that a precedent has been set (at least once)!
