LTE not available on LTE enabled network in Belgium (Belgacom)

I was very excited about the opening of the first public LTE network in Belgium by the carrier Belgacom.

This carrier runs LTE on 1800MHz which is supported by my european iPhone 5.

Apparently Apple blocks access or is not willing to provide a carrier settings update for us to access this LTE network?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.1

Mobistar have the right to launch the 4G as first belgium operator if you like it our not. You think that Apple needs a week to answer one mail?? I don't think so :-)

Sent a mail to Tom coock :-)

and you have 4G on antwerp, with a LTE switch? that is the approve that Proximus customers mast be wait. And that is normal, Mobistar and Telenet sell the Iphone on belgium, not Proximus and Base. I think that it is normal that the right is that Mobistar launch as first operator the 4G. Without Mobistar our Telenet you don't have a iphone now :-) Proximus will be sell this month the samsung galaxy sIII 4G, that phone will be works fine with the proximus network on 4G

With all due respect but I think you are wrong. It's actually very simple

1) We buy an unlocked phone, so it has to work with any network

No one ever claimed it had to work on any network. Apple has stated it will work on any supported network. Basic phone functions will work on any compatible network. The network you are trying to use is neither of those.

2) LTE becomes available, but we aren't able to connect to it so we suspect Proximus.

3) We contact Proximus and they all say they did everything they could, and Auka confirmes it here.

4) The problem is caused by Apple. They should solve it, because it is the law.

Then call a lawyer.

I don't think you really understand what unlocked means. In my point of view it means that you can use your phone with any network and that you could use any service of it, if it is supported on the device. Apple should be a shamed if they are really waiting for Mobistar and Telenet.

Anyway, we will see what happens. Proximus 3G isn't that slow either.

There is that word again...

Can you all please stop ******** and moaning. Apple is doing nothing illegal...the phone works just fine

with all networks and with the right software update will also work with the Belgacom 4G. A supported network

basically means they have a commercial deal with that operator for visual voicemail and other things.

Commercial logic telks you they'll wait till after a mobistar/telenet 4G launch. A pity for all us Bgc users but

nothing illegal. I'm sure we'll all have 4G soon enough...

Belgacom is not a supported carrier. That means that you are welcome to use your iPhone with them, but it may not be fully compatible and Apple makes no statement that it is or will be compatible with them. Some features may not function fully or at all. You must take it up with the carrier.

KiltedTim explained it pretty well in several posts now, and you guys keep on misunderstanding the whole point.

Apple has commercial deals with Mobistar.. Mobistar will be the first operator that will introduce LTE on the iPhone 5 for Belgium, like they are the first to introduce 'visual voicemail' on the iPhone.

I'm a Proximus/Belgacom user myself and yeah it *****, but we have to deal with it. Mobistar is the supported carrier of Apple. Hopefully, after the LTE introduction of Mobistar, it will work out for proximus users aswell.

And now look at the visual voicemail support. It's not on the list either for Mobistar. So reffering to lists from Apple of wat supported or not supported just says nothing. Visual voicemail on Mobsitar is supported for the iPhone but not updated on the list. That's why I'm saying throwing lists to proof something doesn't really say anything.

Then could you explain why when I ordered my iPad mini lte on the online apple store in Belgium I had the option to add a FREE proximus nano sim to my order (witch I did)

The same is not true with the iPhone 5 they're not proposing a proximus sim with it.

Now apple if it's true that you're deliberately blocking 4G on my iPhone 5, I will not only cancel my iPad mini order for late November but also resell all my apple stuff (if someone still wants them) except for the IPhone for whitch I reserve a better treatment! An insertion in the ...... (Replace with whatever comes to your mind) of the Apple GENIUS who sold me that phone as a f..... (Again the same here) that will work on the COMPATIBLE 4G network here in Belgium!!!

I have 4G in my area, I have a compatible iPhone. It's now nearly two weeks lost. So apple move your ...

I can't stress enough that the only way this will be fixed, is when there are enough tickets about the same subject at Apple Support.

The cases at Apple support are not enough, your problem must be _escalated_ through the Senior Advisor.

If you run into a helpdesk engineer that doesn't want to transfer you to his Senior Advisor, gently say goodbuy and hang up, and call again until you get another engineer.

Those escalations are the _only_ way to have Apple themselves look at the issue.

And of course, create as much buzz about it on all media, write e-mails to tech-sites, talk about it on Twitter, whatever...
