iPad Mini...Will it survive in my purse?

I want to get an iPad Mini, but don't want to just carry it around constantly. Will it survive in my purse and not get scratches/cracked screen (I ask because i'm in highschool and didn't think my CAMERA would get broke in there, but lo and behold someone kicked my bag or dropped it weird and jacked up the screen, plus i don't know how delicate it really is.)? They don't have cases for it right now (minus the Smart cover, but I don't really consider that a good case). I'm mainly worried I'm gonna stick it in my purse and the next thing I know I'll have an ugly, scratched up iPad! I had this problem with my iPod Touch 4th gen, the back got all kinds of scratched up even though it was in a case from the moment I opened the box.

They're not indestructable, but won't scratch on their own unless they are put in a bag alongside keys or other hard objects. Common sense tells you that glass and metal will scratch if other hard objects are allowed to come into repeated contact with them.

Wrap it in something soft until you find a case you like, and don't let people kick your bag or drop it.

I would start by not putting your purse in the position of being kicked around. Sounds like a good starting point regardless of what you put in there. You may however find suitable cases at stores like office max, walmart, etc. Thats where I found a good protective carrying case for my ipad 3gen.

LOL! I didn't put my bag in the line of fire on purpose, I promise! XD

I am mostly just concerned it's gonna get all scratched up. Should I get a color like white so it doesn't show up as much, then (In the event that it DOES get scratched for whatever reason)? What do you recommend?

Wrapping it in something soft is a great idea. I usually have my lunch box and drink (In a bottle that won't spill obviously), Nintendo 3DS, and my Wallet in my bag so I was worried one of those would beat up the iPad or something.
