The triple-click home button is not working to get me out of guided access so I am now stuck!

I set the guided access using the triple-click, but when I triple click the home button, it doesn't bring up the passcode entry window. When I just press the home button once, it says "Guided access is enable. Triple-click the home button." When I try to triple click, it doesn't do anything.

When the iPad goes to sleep, I can wake it up just fine by pressing the home button, so that isn't the problem.

What do I do? Help please!!!

iPad 2, iOS 6.0.1

Make sure the system restarts after holding down the power and home buttons. You should see the white apple icon appear. After restart is completed, Guided Access should be disabled (until activated again) and the system should ask for the user PIN. To change the Guided Access PIN, go back to Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access > Set Passcode. Closing all apps and then restarting will do wonders as well for clearing system cache. To close all apps: double-click the home button to make the running app tray appear; press and hold an app icon in the tray for two seconds, then select the red circle with a minus sign for each app icon until no more app icons appear. Once all apps are closed, hold down the power button for four seconds and swipe the red slider to restart.
