no software update option under settings general

on the iPhone 4, under settings general i do not have the option update software. what do i do?

The reason is you have the original operating system, which came out before the "update software" option existed.


Upgrade your iPhone in the traditional way -- by connecting to iTunes, clicking on your iPhone's icon on the left, and clicking "Check for Upgrade".


Once you've upgraded, you'll be able to do software updates over the air. By the way, I suggest you check for updates more frequently than once every other year.
