Mac Mini (2012) HDMI losing sync (blank screen/snow)

Looks like my mini has the HDMI issue that others have reported on the macrumors forums as well as here.

Mine exhibits the blank screen/snow issue ONLY when the HDMI port is used. This happens with HDMI->DVI adapter and also with pure HDMI cabling.

With the same screen, mini and DVI cable this does not occur.

This is a fresh Mini 2012 Server i7 model.

Do I need to report this in an official capacity somewhere (this is only the second ever apple hardware fault I've encountered in twenty years). Should I just be patient for a possible fix (as I don't need the hdmi port

This has been going on since release in late October. The first post on Re: Mac Mini 2012 video blinking out was 27th October!

The fault appears to affect the HDMI output and users connecting from the HDMI port to HDMI monitor or DVI monitor using Apple's HDMI to DVI adapter (supplied) are reporting problems world-wide.

That being the case I believe that you have two basic choices:

Either return it to the store for a refund under the 14 day promise (if you have time) or report the fault to AppleCare so that you are at least logged into the system. Try to avoid trips to the genius bar or anything else that Apple staff might want you to do. My firm belief is that by now Apple have quite enough evidence of the fault to not waste more of their customers' time.

If you keep the machine and can connect DVI then ask Apple to give you a TB to DVI adapter. In my case that work-around is fine until they fix the problem.

Good luck.

I have the Mac Mini Server 2.00 Quad core i7, that has the HD3000 graphics set, and I have the same problem.

Occasionaly I have Green flash on the screen and then it is ok until it blanks out. Sometimes it blanks continuiosly until I unplug the HDMI and replug. Probably doesn’t really affect anything.

I also have complete freezes that last for a few seconds, sort of like when I run MemBoost.

I had the 2.5 Mac Mini with the DVD drive and nevr had any kind of problem, wish I had not given it to my Sister 🙂

Guess I better dig out an adapter and use my TBP.

I just went to the Mac App Store and selected updates and it found an update for my Mini that says: OSX Update 10.8.2 For Macbook Retina display, iMac and Mac mini (Late 2012).

I dont know if this update will fix our issue with the acreen flickering, but it may. Go ahead and download the update and see if it fix the issue. I will do the same right now.

I have taken on board all of what has been said about the Intel HD4000 chip, the 'faulty' HDMI port and the whole 10.8.2 udpdate.

I bought mine 3 days ago, got the snowy screen, updated to 10.8.2 and I still get the snowy screen.

I am really disappointed :-(

My setup:

Mac Mini Core i7 2.3 Quad

4GB RAM

OCZ 120GB SSD

AOC 23" IPS Display connected via HDMI.

I am wondering if I get a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor (if one exists) if this resolved the issue.

For many yes, this is a (temporary) workaround, but a few people have still reported issues. Not sure why.

Since this is clearly an Apple problem you shouldn't have to buy anything.

Many people have contacted Apple and Apple has given them the adapter.
