Using Canon for Printable DVDs

I've been told not to use stick on labels for DVDs. I have a Canon iP6700D printer. So I got the tray from eBay to use for printing DVDs. I went through all the steps so the tray will fit into my printer and went through all the steps on the **** Printer website to change the printer mode so it will print on the DVDs. I got a demo version of DiscLabel and tried to print a label but my printer keeps telling me "The inner cover is open, close the inner cover and press OK". If I close the inner cover I can't put in the tray with the DVD. I've done the page setup and selected Tray C as the 'Paper Size'.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong??? I would appreciate any help I can get.

It makes a very, big difference. It's strongly recommended to have a minimum of 20 GB or more free space when using iDVD. For normal use 10 GB minimum is recommended, more if possible. With inadequate free space iDVD can come to a standstill when it is in the encoding process or give errors in the encoding.

Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Thanks to both Old Toad and Klaus1 for all your help!! I tried Discus and was able to figure out why I kept getting the error to close the inner cover. I needed to set an option that was very hard to find and not at all obvious. After doing print setup options, there was another place where I needed to choose "Quality and Media" and set some options there. "Disc label" had already been selected so I thought that was right but I needed to select "Quality and Media" and pick "Media Type" and select "Printable Disc" for that and "Paper Source" would then change to "Disc Tray". So I was also able to print the disc from DiscLabel as well as Discus.

Now I just have to be able to create a Disc Image and then I can re-burn and print on all my DVDs. 🙂 The "not enough hard drive space" issue is probably the reason I'm having trouble.

Anyway, thank you both so much!!!
