Initial fix for location services on Wi-Fi iPad

Like others in this forum I am having trouble with location services. Although enabled, location services doesn't seem to have an initial (or valid) value on my Wi-Fi only iPad. That probably isn't surprising, for I live relatively remotely in mountains. However, various apps need a location to work properly. How can I input a valid location on my iPad?

Still waiting for my iPad location to work at home. It works fine everywhere I go except at home. I have traveled with my Airport Express router and it works fine everywhere too. I recently had a couple friends come over that had iPhones and had forgotten about this issue. It still has not been resolved. Did I need to have them access my home network with their iPhones in order to get my router registered in the Apple database? What does not make sense to me is why would a router need to be registered in the database in the first place? What happens when I move the router to other locations? Has this database idea come from official channels in Apple or is it just an idea that has not been verified? Not sure who first suggested it.

How long from the time a person with their iPhone accesses my network through my Airport Express and the time the router is added to the Apple database? I have my son-in-law over now and has accessed my network. I wonder if there is another issue causing my location not to work at home. It works almost everywhere except at home. Any other ideas ?

I had an iPod touch for years that worked fine with Maps and current location, in fact it picked up my exact house on the map. Then I travelled to the States on hols(I'm in Europe) and came back with an iPad. I'm not sure if My Location on maps was working when I came back, I thought it was but after a couple of weeks it stopped working and that's for sure, I discovered it was not working when trying to set up the Find my iPod app. Anyway for about 4 months it did not work, I tried everything to fix it, set up my touch as a new ipod, cleared all settings etc but all to no avail. It still worked with my sons iPhone but only using Edge or through his SIM card, not through the Wi-Fi on the router. I was stumped especially as it had worked fine for years. Then last week it came back out of the blue, loaded Maps on the iPad and there was the Current Location icon sitting atop my house. I can't be sure if anything I did contributed to fixing it but about 2 weeks ago I did register my routers Wi-Fi MAC address with the Skyhook database, apparently this is the database Apple uses for it's location services. Now I did not think this worked as it's supposed to only take 24 hours for the information added to the Skyhook database to register, who knows. Also as maps and location services worked in the past even though I never actively registered my routers details with Skyhook until a few weeks ago I can't be sure if this is what fixed it. Anyway it's worth a try for anybody having this problem. What I would love to know is why it stopped working in the first place?????
