What is Genieo and why did it appeared misteriosouly on my MacBook Pro?

Quitting an App prior to deletion is normal, not a secret. And activity monitor is the usual place to quit an App that has no UI itself.

My copy rode in on an Adobe Flash Player update recently.

I doubt it Isaac, but that's good to know that updating seems to affect it either way.

Remember that Geneio is not just the Geneio.app file.

Removing Genieo has absolutely nothing to do with the Advanced settings pane in Safari.

I see that it could mislead some visitiors. All the more reason to stay away from it.

Download from vendor sites, not Macworld, or CNET, Softonic etc.

I run Sophos (free mac antivirus) on mine and it caught this program as a threat and easily cleaned it up in no time. So, if you are spending time cleaning this up, maybe try Sophos.

This seemed to work...Is there any relationship to ZipCloud which registers the same time as Geneio?

Thomas, your Software removed Intallmac from Safari but not from Google. I've tried everything. Any advice? P.S. Thanks for the removal on Safari, though.

Genieo is Malware, just as invasive as anything out there

But I see that the battle has just begun. While writing the last post, Symantec quarantined another batch of files.

Here is the best solution i could find.

I have 14 of these quarantined with this exact Identity. Makes me wonder as well. I may have other issues as well, but this is a concern.
