App Store offers update, but says it's already installed

The App Store is offering me an update to Window Tidy, and the version number is in fact newer than the version on my Mac, but while the App Store icon in the dock shows the update available badge, the store lists the update as installed, so I can't download the update. This is the problem with cloud computing. It works great when it works, but when it breaks, I can't fix it myself. Grrr...

Here's something interesting. The operation was a success but the patient died. Window Tidy was updated and no longer works. It does nothing. Mt layouts are still saved, but they do not appear when Option dragging windows, even though Window Tidy is enabled.

Well now, in Window Tidy there is a direct connection to the developer and a support section. What have you done in terms of connecting with them? You haven't mentioned such contacts so far but the problems you have met should be reported in order that the developer is aware.

But I think I have gone as far as I can with this one. I wish you well.

The developer says a few customers have reported the issue, and he's asking if I want to test a beta version which will get me back on the road sooner then waiting for the update to clear the App Store. I think I will do the beta test.

I was having the same problem. Here's what worked for me: Delete the app from the applications folder and empty the trash. Open the Mac App Store and "re-purchase" the app (it won't actually charge you because you already own it). It will download and that's it! I re-launched the app, my preferences were still there and the app store says zero updates.

I'm having the same issue with iPhoto. I have the badge icon showing 1 update available, however the software update is showing the update is already installed. I like the idea of uninstalling and reinstalling the program, however I'm not sure if it's possible to reinstall iPhoto...

Yes, I did post that at the very beginning but Gary (the OP) reported it didn't work .. and I have to say I have found times when it hasn't worked for me either.

You could try reindexing your HDD. The MAS uses the Spotlight indexing in determining what apps need updating. Go to Systems Preferences / Spotlight/ Privacy; add your Hdd to the list then remove it from the list. Spotlight will then reindex your HDD.
