System preferences is empty

Hi friens ,first post 🙂

I found out that the System Preferences is empty! the windows is narrow and small and empty. i Googled a bit and

tried to go to PreferencesPane in the library , but the folders are empty over there too!

What is wrong? what is the fix?

Thanks

User uploaded file/Library/Preferences - trash the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file, repair permissions, restart your computer. When you reach the desktop empty the trash.

If you have already tried the above, try the following -

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.

Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.

Select your language.

Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.

Select Disk Utility.

Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.

Click Repair Disk.

Restart your computer when done.

Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer. System Preferences still empty?

Tried the things you suggested , it is still Empty. Seems strange and odd.

When Installing the OS Leopard again , does it overwrite the existing or adds a new one? i don't want to catch a lot of space on my HD.

second question : when installing , which things i should back up so it won't be lost?

thanks

Prudence calls for backing up everything. I recommend using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to make a bootable backup/clone of your existing installation.

Then, just reinstall Snow Leopard, no need to install Leopard. That will only replace all OS components and basic Apple apps, such as TextEdit, Safari, and Terminal, leaving everything else in place, so nothing will be lost.

Wow , Murphi calls

Tried to Re-install the Snow Leopard as mentioned by startup . it reaches a point where 39 minutes are left and then i get a message that there was an error (no details) and install cant continue. that i should contact the software manufacturer . go out and install again. did it 2 times - the same thing.

what is wrong?

BTW - the problems started after i ran - CC cleaner , Clean My Mac, YASU. and repaired disk permissions.
