Ricoh Aficio scanning to mac Mini Server

I have a brand new Mac Mini Server, os is up todate 10.8. something.

I have two XP Pro SP3 pc's that access file shares on the mac mini.

They are ok except the drop the connection due to what I believe is the SMB 1.0 on the XP and 2.0 version on the mini fighting each other.

But it works for now with the XP machines till I can upgrad them to windows 7.

We have a Ricoh Aficio MP C2550.

I want to scan to the mini.

I cannot access SMB shares on the Mini from this printer.

I tried FTP but cannot access the FTP site either.

I can access both SMB and FTP from the XP machines.

I am new to Mac's. I have been a Windows guy since 1994.

Any help would be greatly appreciated on this.

Hi. I Work for ricoh in South Africa, and getting the scan to folder working on any Mac is a mission but possible.

Just follow the steps listed below and it should work.

Regarding the shared folder on the Mac, please check the following settings:

  • 1) Select "System Preferences" > "Sharing".
  • 2) Select the shared folder that you created, and click the "Options" button.
  • 3) Confirm that the "Windows File Sharing" setting and "Share files and folders using SMB" setting are enabled for shared user accounts.

SMB signing on the Mac:

Check the configuration of the SMB-signing setting. If the setting is enabled, it needs to be disabled.

[-] How to check if SMB signing is enabled or disabled

To open the Terminal application, see the following section.

1) Open the Terminal application, which is located in Utilities.

[-] How to open Terminal

  • 1) Open Finder.
  • 2) Select Application in the sidebar and open Utility.
  • 3) Open Terminal.
  • 2) Check the settings for SMB signing. Execute the following command in Terminal:

echo "show com.apple.smb" | scutil

3) Check the items "SigningEnabled" and "SigningRequired". If it is set to "FALSE", the environment can use Scan to SMB.

<dictionary> { AclsEnabled : FALSE

AllowDropboxShare : TRUE

AllowGuestAccess : FALSE

DOSCodePage : 932

EnabledServices : <array> {

0 : disk

}

MaxClients : 500

NetBIOSName : MACBOOKPRO-935F

ProtocolVersionMap : 3

RegisterWINSName : TRUE

SequesterDurationMins : 1440

ServerDescription : hyouka ョ MacBook Pro

SharingEnabled : TRUE

SigningEnabled : FALSE

SigningRequired : FALSE

TransportKeepAlive : 120

VirtualAdminShares : TRUE

VirtualHomeShares : TRUE

Workgroup : WORKGROUP

}-] How to disable SMB signing

Warning: Because these settings are related to security, please ask the customer to configure them. In addition, this configuration is related to Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, so please ask them to contact Apple regarding any inquiries about this.

  • 1) Open the Terminal application, which is located in Utilities.
  • 2) Execute the following commands to set SigningRequired and SigningEnabled to "FALSE":

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.smb.server.plist SigningRequired -bool 'FALSE'
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.smb.server.plist SigningEnabled -bool 'FALSE'
Reboot MAC

This part must be done from a windows machine

Time & Date setting on the MFP:

The MFP needs to coincide with the time that is set on the Mac in consideration of the time zone. If the time on the MFP and the Mac are different by more than two hours, Scan to SMB will fail.

Authentication method on the MFP:

The authentication method needs to be changed from NTLM to NTLMv2 via Telnet:

[-] How to check or change if authentication method is NTLM to NTLMv2

Notes when using Telnet:

  • Only one user at a time can log on to perform remote maintenance.
  • If Windows Vista or a later Windows OS is being used, "Telnet Client" in Windows Features must be enabled beforehand.

To open the Command Prompt, see the following section.

[-] How to open the Command Prompt

One of the quickest ways to start the Command Prompt is to click the Windows Start button and type "cmd":

To Top

1) Use the IP address or the hostname of the machine to start Telnet.
% telnet "IP address"

For example, if the machine's IP address is "192.168.15.16", enter the address as follows:
% telnet 192.168.15.16

2) Enter the username and password.
Both the username and password are the same as the one for the administrator of Web Image Monitor.

3) Enter a command.

msh> smb client auth
- Displays the current setting.

msh> smb client auth 1
- Enables NTLMv2.

4) Exit Telnet.

msh> logout
A message asking to confirm saving the changes appears.

5) Type "yes" to save the changes and then press Enter.

If you do not want to save the changes, type "no" and then press Enter. To make further changes, type "return" in the command line and then press Enter key.

Notes:

  • If the message "Cannot write NVRAM information" appears, the changes are not saved. In that case, repeat the procedure above.
  • When the changes are saved, the network interface board is reset automatically with those changes applied.

To Top

msh> smb client auth
-Displays the current setting

msh> smb client auth 1
-Enables NTLMv2

msh> logout
-Saves data

Hi Fultonm. I had the same issue and the steps below resolved my scanning and it is still workin OK now.

Scanning to MAC 10.7 and above using FTP

Turn on the FTP server on the destination MAC using the following command which needs to be enter from within the “Terminal”:

sudo -s launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ftp.plist

To stop it:
sudo -s launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ftp.plist

Confirm the FTP server works by typing:

ftp localhost

If the ftp server is configured correctly, you should see the below:

$ ftp localhost
Trying ::1…
Connected to localhost.
220 ::1 FTP server (tnftpd 20100324+GSSAPI) ready.
Desktop/My ScansName (localhost:):

To enable the FTP server, you will need to enter the password of the user account that your are currently logged into in order for the FTP server to be created. If you need to turn off FTP enter “unload”. The FTP server will usually be com.apple.ftp.

  1. Create a scans folder on the desktop, i.e. My Scans.
  2. Share the scans folder
  3. Log onto the copier which the scans need to be sent from.
  4. Open address book and select to add a new scan destination.
  5. Select “file” as the scan type and change the send method from “SMB” to “FTP”.
  6. Enter a name for the scans destination as usual.
  7. Enter either the IP address of the MAC or the hostname and folder path into the relevant boxes.
  8. On a Ricoh both the IP/Hostname and the folder path can be enter into the “Hostname” Box.
  9. On a Canon, enter the IP/hostname into the “Hostname” box, and enter the folder path into the “Folder Path” box.

You do not need to use the “\\” for the hostname or folder path as you would when setting up scanning to a Windows machine, i.e. \\MYCOMPUTER\DESKTOP\MYSCANS.

Instead you enter the IP/hostname and folder path in the following format;

Ricoh –

Hostname: MYCOMPUTER/DESKTOP/MYSCANS

Canon –

Hostname: MYCOMPUTER

Folder Path: DESKTOP/MYSCANS

  1. Enter the user account name and password that is going to be used for authentication.
  2. Save the settings and test the scanning. IF configured correctly using the steps above the scans should be sent to the MAC using FTP and appear in the scans folder you have created.

The fields (hostname, folder path, authentication, and so on) for setting up the scan destination information on the copiers GUI will be dependent on the manufacturer, but will all follow the same principle.

Hope this works!

It is now three years later and I cannot get a Ricoh C4504 to scan to OS X Server running on a Mac Mini. I followed the same instructions above and got a little different result. Instead of:

220 ::1 FTP server (tnftpd 20100324+GSSAPI) ready.

Desktop/My ScansName (localhost:):

I got:

220 ::1 FTP server (tnftpd 20100324+GSSAPI) ready.

Name (localhost:):

Your example shows you creating the shared folder after you enabled FTP, but it showed up in your example.

The newer Ricoh has a little bit different interface but the same stuff is still there. After struggling with SMB with no luck I was hoping FTP would work for me. As it is, the server does not show up on the Ricoh browser. They are both in WORKGROUP, but when I select WORKGROUP on the ricoh browser only the other Macs and PCs show up - not the server. Manually keying in the server and path to the shared file gives me a connection error. At one time we needed to switch the Ricohs to SMB1 protocol because Apple changed the default on the server. Now, I think, that the protocol is back to SMB2.
