how do i transfer data from my old macbook 13" 2008 to my new macbook pro 13" but my old macbook won't turn on

hello! i went to the Genius Bar and they told me my logic board needed to be replaced on my old white macbook 13". however, i need to get my data and information from my old macbook but my old macbook won't turn on. i was told by Genius Bar that the hard drive could be accessed via the 3 screws when the battery was removed and the hard drive could be turned into a external hard drive once removed. that way i could transfer my music, movies, pictures, etc. they told me that Best Buy could do the data transfer for me. i went to Geek Squad but they told me the hard drive wasn't accessable behind those 3 screws, that the ram was there instead. i just want to transfer my data. please help!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Your Geek Squad wasn't very geeky. the hard drive is right next to the RAM.

Here's the three screws

Here's the hard drive tab that pulls the hard drive out.

Here's the hard drive out and you can see the RAM in it's slots.

Do you have a new hard drive in the repaired MacBook? If not you just put the old hard drive back in after they replace the logic board

If you have a new hard drive in then put the old hard drive in a USB external case. Here's a cheap SATA external hard drive case on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Vantec-NexStar-2-5-Inch-External-Enclosure/dp/B002JQNXZC/r ef=pd_cp_pc_0
