My problems are solved. I thought it might be corrupt software, but as it turned out it was my protective case. The software update happened just as I received my new Lifeproof case. After having one on my 4 forever, I never considered the case. After resets, soft and hard, nothing worked. As a last ditch effort I took the case off and it worked.

You are EXACTLY right. My friend and my phones' END CALL buttons were all but disabled with the Lifeproof case on. Take the case off and it works just fine. Seems to me it's a problem with the light/proximity sensor. Shame....I too had one on my iphone 4 and would have rather waited another month for them to get it right than have to put up with this.

Oh it's definitely the case. It's a well known, well complained about problem on the lifeproof facebook page. It has more to do with the case interfering with the proximity sensor causing the end call button to not work. And yes, you can work around it by pushing the lock button to end the call, or some other trick, but for an $80 case, it should work pretty close to perfect, and their first batches were a miserable first attempt. I've been following the posts on the Lifeproof page and though there are several that say theirs works fine now, there are tons of posts from people on their third and fourth replacement cases before the problem is fixed. I had two, the original and the replacement, and neither worked correctly, so I just got a refund. Hopefully they will, or have, found and fixed the problem, because I sure miss the total peace of mind it brought to my iPhone 4.

I have the iPhone 5 and the Lifeproof case, and have been having the same problem ending the calls. After reading these posts, I have tested the phone using the "engage speakerphone" method, which allows the end call button to work, and also the "open the charging port" method, which also allows the button to work. Tested each a couple of times, and they always worked.

Thanks to all the folks who posted previously... hopefully my tests will help someone else.

Same problem, not country specific

German support told me to reset, to set to delivery status. The first I did. No change.

Jeff's and Reilly's posts really helped.

It's not the case, without it its still failed.

- speakerphone on, end works

- lock screen button to end call works also

- home button and reactivating call to foreground and then end call also works

so we have workarounds, but

APPLE it's your turn.

-- this is not a noname

-- innovation from 4 to 5 is overseeable

-- at least old stuff should work

-- ... and please inform your supports it's no our intention to reset and restore just for fun

I have an early version of the LifeProof case and have been experiencing the "end call" problem. This problem does not exist, minus the LifeProof case, Therefore it is very apparent that this is a LifeProof issue, however, I have consistently been able to end my calls by simply touching the End button anywhere EXCEPT the center. If I touch either the right or left side of the End button, it seems to work properly and consistently, with the LifeProof case installed.
