I've hooked it up to my laptop, updated the itunes, then it did all 5 steps of the sync-ing process, and I'm just lost.
Pathetic as this may sound, someone please walk me through this. I'd really appreciate it!! Thanks😊

If you have synced and backed up then, while connected to itunes 10.7? click check for updates and it should give you the update to start.
Check for updates will be in the center of the screen in itunes.
Also make sure your on itunes 10.7 which requires osx 10.6.8
Ok you need to go to apple.com/itunes and download the newest itunes first. Then start over from what i said to do earlier.
iOS is the Operating System on your phone. You DO have one, or your phone would not work. To see which release you have now, go to Settings/General/About and look at "Version". That is your iOS release.

You will have to download itunes 10.7 because when you do the update it will be to ios6 and will require itunes 10.7 before you can do the update.

Did you go to my link above and click on it, then just tap download, it should automatically recognize that you are on a pc so it will download the correct one for you. It will take a little bit for it to finish tho.

What happened when you clicked update and after it showed you it was backing up?
The first time it said it was backing up it stopped out of no where. So I thought it was because my phone was on and people were calling/texting (which I wasn't answering or anything) so I put it in airplane mode thinking I was doing something right but I guess not.
Then I shut off my phone but as soon as I plugged it into my laptop it turned on and stupid me didn't realize obviously it needs to be on how else would I be able to do anything with it.
Apparently it just stopped backing up again, now what?
Try again, it sounded like it was working from what you said.
Just to make sure , in itunes, click on the help button, scroll to the bottom and tap on about itunes. What version does it say?
Ok, so I clicked update and the phone says "sync in progress" and itunes says "backing up phone"..
Am I on the right track?
I can't click the help button without canceling the backing up screen. But I know its the latest version because it was the first thing that popped up and I clicked on when I plugged in my phone - to update to latest version of itunes.

That happens when you plug it in to computer in itunes. When its finished then click update again.
