it says "no data"...I am new with this and i don't know what is wrong...
We do need some specific info to help further such as:
What type of camera?
What setting is the camera shooting exactly?
How is the camera connected to Mac?
What is the current Sequence setting?
Where is the destination Scratch Disc and how is it formatted?
What version FCE?
What version Operating System?
Al
Final cut express 4
Camera is Panasonic HDC-HS300 avchd
The videos are in a sd card
Latest OS on macpro
Scrat disk is a folder on my laptop
Not sure about sequence settings or setting the camera is shooting :/
Thank you so very much for your help...i transferred and logged the same sd card to another computer and worked fine...
Things to know about your camera and FCE:
It can shoot a variety of differing footage.
It will work with Interlaced and it won't with Progressive.
Set the camera to the highest level of interlaced recording.
Is this a PAL or NTSC camera?
The FCE Sequence setting has to match the cameras output.
It will be one of the AVCHD Easy Setups.
We need to know the above details to advise on the exact one.
Al
Thank you so very much Al!
NTSC camera....
what i don't understand is why i could transfer and log in another computer but i can't on mine :/
Sounds like you would use The FCE Easy Setup AVCHD 1920 x 1080i60 for your camera.
Camera would be set o produce 1920 x 1080 interlaced footage.
The Easy Setup should be set first in FCE as sometimes the wrong one can cuase no communication.
If you have difficuty, outline exactly the details we have discussed and how everthing is connected.
The above should work unless there is a hardware problem in the loop.
Al
i think i should have taken some class before trying to do this....
my easy setup on FCE says...
Sequence preset: DV NTSC 48kHz
Capture Preset: DV NTSC 48kHz
Device control preset: FireWire NTSC
Playback output video: Apple FireWire NTSC (720x480)
Playback output audio: FireWire DV
PTV output video: same as playback
PTV output audio: same as playback
what do you mean by "hardware problem"?
Thanks
First thing to do is open FCE>Easy Setup and select the AVCHD 1920 x 1080i60 and hit OK.
This sets the Sequence Properties correctly for the incoming footage from the camera.
They are now speaking the same language/communicating.
DV NTSC is the default for FCE and it hasn't got a chance with AVCHD.
Hardware problem means something wrong with a cable or port on camera or Mac.
Al
i dont have this option...i see HDV apple intermidiate codec 1080i60...it's the closest i see on my options...all the other option are DV- NTSC something or DV-PAL something....
If the option is not there means you are not running FCE 4.0.1.
.1 gives you the addtional codecs.
This is a free update using the Software Update process.
Al
i updated FCE, changed the easy settings but still does not transfer and log my videos :/
If the footage is Progressive on the camera it won't work.
Otherwise, switch everything off, pull out all cables and take note of how you do everything and post a detailed step by step.
Sometimes the smallest detail has BIG consequences.
Maybe we can spot the culprit. 🙂
Al
i dont think it's progressive because i could transfer and log on my friend's computer...
and which cables? i use a sd card to transfer the videos....
OK.
SD cards can work directly if your Mac has a built in reader or with external card readers.
All HD from solid state media uses a USB cable for camera transfers if that is how the transfers are done.
I've heard of users capturing one way but not the other.
Try a few methods.
Still need the step by step to assist.

Thank you so very much for all your help! i did find out that i had to click on something called panasonic AVCHD plugin...and now it's working! it's trasfering and logging my videos 😀
