Text messages different colors?

Blue means the message was sent as an iMessage, using data, not your SMS allowance. Green means it was sent as a regular SMS. It also means that at the time you sent it, one or both of you didn't have a data connection.

Green balloons are SMS text messages, the kind you have always had to send/receive over the voice network.

Blue balloons are iMessages and can only be sent/received from others using Apple iOS devices. They are sent over the cell data or WiFi connection and do not count against your text messaging plan.

Read the User Guide. This is one of the most basic functions of the iPhone. A copy of the User Guide is found bookmarked in your safari app.

Green=SMS (Through cellular)

Blue=iMessage {through Internet (Wi-Fi or cellular data)}

Green is normal SMS text message through Cell Carrier. Blue is text with iMessage which only goes to iDevices.
