i usually drain my battery daily and plug it in the charger before i sleep. But when i wake up i notice the battery plug is green (which is full charge) but when i check my battery % status, at the status bar it says its 99% with a full charge. Is it a normal thing for the battery? Its a brand new laptop (13 inch macbook pro non-retina display) got it atleast 2 weeks ago. Thank you.

Yes that is normal, the green light will turn on if the battery's charge range is between 96% - 100%
And it would also not be smart to drain your battery daily, considering that it will shorten its life.

Calibrating a portable computer battery
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) and later
MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2009) and later
It wouldn't be smart to drain the battery at all, but if you are away from the charger and you have to use it, use it. You should stop using the laptop when the battery percentage gets any lower than 40%.
so its normal if the battery is at 99% and the charger is indicating full charge?
