iTunes was unable to load data class information from Sync Services

I started to get the following message from iTunes:

iTunes was unable to load data class information from Sync Services

I searched the forums and found a solution from Apple that indicated that one should uninstall iTunes and reinstall. However the issue is that on Mountain Lion attemping to move iTunes into the trash causes a message to be displayed indicating that it cannot be deleted because it is part of the operating system. I also attempted to simply download the latest version of iTunes and reinstal it but during the installation an error occurred that said the installation couldn't be completed.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem are appreciated as I understand that Sync Services are required in order to allow backups to be restored to iOS devices.

  • Click on a blank area of your Desktop
  • On the menu select Go -> Go To Folder ...
  • Type into the textbox:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework

  • Click Go
  • Right click on MobileDevice.framework and Move to Trash
  • You will be prompted for your system password.
  • Then reinstall iTunes.

This is somewhere I have to navigate to on my computer, right? Can you tell me how I would get here? I'm not very good with computers...;-(

Go to:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/

delete "Mobiledevice.framework"
