Sound on Macbook Pro not working?

I've had this problem too. All I do is restart my computer and it works just fine.

I don't have the answer but i have a guestion? 🙂

So i have imac intel based 10.6.8

and i have the "sound issue"

it doesn't recognize the built in speakers or headphones or external speakers...

i have the startup sound, after reseting the NVRAM, but nothing else, and im losing my mind completely.. i have tried a bunch of stuff from forums etc. and nothing helps..

i dont know if im missing a driver or smthg, when i go to sys pref>sound> i only have an soundflower option for 2ch, 16ch... its not muted and it shows bass moving up and down, but there is no sound coming from headphones, ext speakers or internal....

its not a hardware issue, beacause i get the startup sound...

PLEASE OH PLEASE HELP???!!!!!!

Hello friends, My MacBook Pro 15.4. The sound worked fine until yesterday. The volume control bottens were work pperfectly,

and the volume box is showing up on the screen. The is NOT a circle with the line or anything like that. Everything seems normal. Yet, no

sound comes out of the internal speakers or the headphones. There is NOT a red light in the headphone jack as I saw on other threads. And my builtin speakers are working with FLV plyer.

Please share your expriance if some one has had the same problem and how you have fixed it.

Few days ago i solved my "no sound" isue by installing the supplemental update for 10.6.8...

You can try to reset PRAM

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

and SMC

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

Also open Audio Midi in utilities, and see if anything is muted, and are settings in order...

As mentioned earlier, the fact that you hear a startup sound does not mean it is not a hardware problem. The logic to switch different outputs is done by software. Please read this threat!

You should check if you have a red light coming out of your earplug, if so, read my other post from Jun 20, 2013

It was a sofware issue in my case, since a supplemental 10.6.8 update has solved it....

It was a corrupt audio kernel extension

Here's what totally worked for me. I've had the same problem and was perplexed. All settings seemed to be correct, and still no sound. For whatever reason, in the SOUND window in System Preferences, I clicked on MUTE and then unlocked it, and when I did my sound was back. It was a total fluke, but it worked. Hope that helps someone!

Thank you, this worked well for me. And is working fine. I did not need to try 10 times, as it successfully resolved the problem after a few times.

My sound is broken too, but when I go to system preferences > sound > output, there are no devices.

Hello, I had this problem also.

I got mine working through my internal speakers again by plugging in my headphones, pausing all audio, then removing the headphones.

(might want to mute the speakers from your Mac before unplugging, then unmute, and play some music.)

As soon as I removed the headphones, the red light in the port went off.

I was able to get my internal speakers working by using your advice. I'm not sure how many iterations of plugging and unplugging the headphone jack I performed (maybe close to 50) but it eventually switched from digital output to internal speakers. The accepted answer for this question may have people giving up after only 5 or 6 iterations.

This solved my sound problem. I only had to plug into my headphone jack once and it switched back to external speakers when I unplugged. Thank you!

My sound was lost also and discovered the speakers switched to blooth speaker in another room. Systems Preference>sound>internal speakers
