Sound on Macbook Pro not working?

Since this morning the sound on my macbook pro has not been working? I had headphones plugged in and suddenly the sound stopped working, I didn't think anything of it and later when I'd unplugged the headphones the sound still isn't working? Why is this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Hello, in my case, the issue was related to the physical port switch that determines whether you have optical audio cable or headphones plugged in. I have used the headphones that come bundled with Sony Xperia Z3 and they caused the port to stuck in digital audio mode.

When I plugged and unplugged Apple headphones, then sound came back. What a shame for Apple 🙂

This problem, I have discovered, ONLY happens to me when I use a certain pair of SkullCandy (non-Apple) earphones. I tried inserting and removing them 5 or 6, (15-20 😀) times, tried poking and prodding with a toothpick (as mentioned somewhere else in this thread), but nothing worked...

...UNTIL...!

I plugged in a pair of Apple brand earphones and upon removal, my problem was solved, first try. This has worked for me twice. Somehow, I think the problem is caused by using non-Apple headphones and is solved by inserting/removing Apple headphones.

Cheers!
