Sound balance reverting to right channel

I have a 2011 Macbook Air that I connect to a nonThunderbolt 27" Cinema Display via the Thunderbolt/USB ports from my Macbook Air.

Lately I've noticed that when I disconnect the Macbook and reconnect to the Cinema Display, the sound then comes from the right speaker only. Looking into system preferences the sound balance always reverts to the right channel only. I'm choosing the LED Cinema Display device for sound output.

No matter how many times I then correct this, the process repeats itself every time I disconnect and reconnect, I have to manually correct the sound balance.

Anyone else experienced similar?

Last few days things seemed to have reverted back to normal behaviour, I am now getting normal sound balance after redocking.

I don’t remember any significant updates from Apple in the last week or so. I did however take my laptop on holiday, switching off power completely for my Cinema Display. After coming back things now seem normal so this may have contributed to the resolution. May be worth a shot if you had similar issue.

Awesome, but the file isn't available any longer. Can we make this script run whenever you press Cmd+F2, so it checks that the channel output is balanced?

I often listen to iTunes on my iMac when on my work MacBook, so having the channels balanced when I can't see what's happening on my iMac would be awesome. (I control iTunes with the iOS Remote app in case anybody's wondering)

jvfive,

Sorry about that. The blue button is actually for "Priority Download", which does download some stupid EXE.

Here are the steps (with screenshots):

1) Go to: http://www.4shared.com/file/DSo1dFw_/LazyApple.html

2)User uploaded file

click on the gray downloaded button highlighted.

3) User uploaded file

Click "FREE DOWNLOAD"

4) Then double click the app.

OR, if you'd like- here is the applescript I used:

tell application "System Preferences"

activate

reveal anchor "output" of pane id "com.apple.preference.sound"

end tell

tell application "System Events"

tell slider 1 of group 1 of tab group 1 of window 1 of process "System Preferences"

set value to 0.5

end tell

end tell

tell application "System Preferences"

quit

end tell

I have a mid-2012 15" MacBook Pro. I have the "balance going right" problem but I do not have a Cinema Display. Not to throw a wrench in this, but the Cinema Display might be a red herring.

I THINK, although I haven't been able to prove it reliably, that the problem occurs when I plug in my ear buds. When I open System Preferences and move the slider back to the center it will remain there, but eventually SOMETHING is sliding it back to the right.

Very annoying. Very frustrating to hear nothing from Apple. When a number of people are all having the same issue, it's not mass hallucination--they should at least respond to say they've noticed the complaint and will TRY to reproduce it.

I have a mid-2012 15'' MacBook Pro Retina display with double Thunderbolt ports. I just realized that the ''balance right problem'' only happens when I connect the monitor to the first Thunderbolt port (next to the power plug).

When I connect the monitor to the second Thunderbolt port (next to USB port) the balance of the sound remains dead center. So this solve my problem, but the problem with the first TB port remains. It can be a solution if you have the same MacBook model that I have and it is a partial solution while Apple solve the problem.
