Using HP Deskjet 5150 printer with Mountain Lion

I want to use an older model HP Deskjet 5150 printer at work for the rare printing from a computer running Mountain Lion. HP web site says sorry, no drivers available. Will be printing basically text. No high quality printing or photographs. Any suggestions or work arounds?

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Hi,

Indeed the HP Deskjet 5150 not officially compatible with Mountain Lion, you may try the 3rd party HPIJS drivers which list your printer as supported and compatible with Mountain Lion, it shoud provide you better quality than any generic driver..

Be sure to install any of the 3 required downloads, then follow the Set Up instructoins on the same page.

Best of luck,

Shlomi

The HP Deskjet 5150 is not supported in Lion (10.7) either. But since I had a surplus of ink for the 5150. I needed to continue using this printer. After some trial and error I found that using the driver "HP Desktop 5550 - Cups+Gutenprinter v5.2.7" works well. The driver should be in the printer set up list of printer drivers. I found that I needed to adjust the margins and orientation for some printings. After running a couple of test prints I have had no problems running the 5150. Also I have found that I needed to reduce the printing size to 92 or 95% on most of my PDF printings or the right and bottom margins get clipped off. Additionally the envelopes will print in reverse orientation. I just have to reverse the envelope feeding.
