A friend recently gave me an "old" ipod touch. According to my itunes software, Its os is now up to date with version 4.2.1. I want to download the app for Overdrive Media Console, but current version 4.6.2 of Overdrive requires requires ios 4.3. Is there a way to download an earlier version of the app that will work with my ipod touch? Thanks for your reply.

Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

What I did was download an epub reader that still suported iOS 4.2.1 (BeyondPrint is what I'm using). Use a computer to download the epub from Overdrive (.acsm file). (iPod Safari was unable to download from their site.) Email it to the account that your iPod Mail application is connected to.
When you open the email in iPod Mail, the attachment will be clickable and you'll be asked what application to open it with. Choose your epub reader.

Ugh. I'd been planning to see if any of the 4.2.1-compatible EPUB readers could deal with those .acsm files. Another thing on my "to do" list. Don't be surprised if you end up reading your library books on an app which is localized for the Korean language.
And thanks for reminding me; I'd forgotten that .acsm suffix.
